Pretty quiet day.. today I reached out to talk to my old friend Jim. Jim is one of my favorite folks from my many years at IBM.. he’s super smart.. and super funny.. he and our friend bruce had lots of fun building chips together for IBM computers. I have so many Jim stories its’ hard to pic the best one. but this picture says a ton about jim.. He’s the one thats front right in this picture..
He’d talked us all in to getting into a ski boat in east fishkill new york.. and motor all the way down the hudsom river to NYC.. where we wet out to the Statue of Liberty to pick up our friend Bills brother.. then we dropped our freind Bard off behind JFK airport for his flight home..
did I mention it was 90 miles in a tiny boat.. in the snow.. and all we had to eat and drink was a bottle of scotch ?
You can read about the wol adventure here
Jim , Bruce and I have traveled all over together working with teams all over the world.. then one day I got a call.. Jim had been in a terrible accident and was in a coma.. days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months and Jim was still in coma.. I traveled down to visit him a few times.. I fugred I’d never get to talk to him again..
then one day.. I got a call .. and it was jim.. and he said ‘im back’..
and he was.. he’s still the same old jim.. but one thing changed. Jim got even nicer and more sentimental. he loves everybody.. he calls me to tell me that he loves Sam.. eh and Bruce came up when Sam died.. and they really helped me when I needed it most..
It was so great catching up with Jim.. we talked about old friends.. and the people we love.. and for Jim thats everybody..
we could all use a little more Jim in us !
nice to talk to you old freind !
nite all, nite sam
