Wednesday night – Passionate nerds

Another beautiful fall day.. unseasonably warm.. my car thermometer jsut told me it was an incredible 75 degrees at 8:30 at night.. that’s like mid summer !

I  had another insanely busy day.. I’m busier than I can remember being. in a long time.. and that’s saying something. I was in solid calls from 6:30 am until 5 PM.. I did manage to take a very welcome and fun lunch with my old friend Roger.. Roger’s wife .. and best friend.. Sue passed away in July and I’ ve been meaning to catch up with him.. and we finally connected. It was so good catching up.. did some laughing and crying.. all you need for a lunch break. I’m glad to have reconnected

Late tonight was the Vermont Academy of Science and Engineering annual fall talk and dinner.  Before the talk. we announced our two teachers of the year. One was Katherine from ADL and the other was my old freind Dana from Missisquoi union. Both really inspiring teachers !

dana brought three of her students.. and her fiancee. Dale. . they’re getting married this Saturday !!!!!

The speaker tonight was really wonderful..  Prof Bob Kirshner from Harvard talked about the study behind the conclusion that the universe is expanding. Two of Bob’s students won the Nobel  prize for this work. It seriously was one of the best talks I’ve ever heard. Funny, informative and fast paced..  It was so good, I didn’t even think to catch a picture. !

afterwards was the annual vase dinner. such a wonderful geek fest !

we welcome 3 new members !.. including Prof Chris L .  .. who Gabe knows from UVM.

THen oru Teachers of the year gave some nice remarks..
