Monday night – First GIV

As I was walking to the beach last night I came across there baby birds huddled together on the grass under a lilac tree in our yard. I could see the nest they must have been in . They were very young.. they had feathers.. but couldn’t fly.  I assumed they’d fallen out of the tree.. I  didn’t know what to do. Diane and I did a little research online and read that it was much more likely that the parents had kicked them out of the nest and would be looking after them.. sure enough  this morning the baby birds were still there and mam and poppa bird were takign turns feeding them..

That evening I drove down to Norwich University to give a Jolts and Volts show.. It was for the Governors Institute of Vermont (GIV) Engineering camp.. I love giving these shows.. and this audience is one of my favorites. I thing they had about 60 kids.. super sweet and nerdy.. My friend Erika’s son Charley was in the gorup.. The kids were so gtreat !

I really love doing these shows .. good thing as I have several more this week !

nite all. nite sam

  1. Hi John, Do you ever describe a day in the life of an engineer ? 5-6 hours staring at a computer screen and 2-3 hours of meetings and extremely tight schedules. I bet that would get the kids psyched huh ? At IBM I missed the van de graaff hair days I guess (ha) Science I love. Engineering has some good points, if I was to do it all over again and I knew what I know now I would work/own a marina. As I used to say, semiconductors have no soul. Neither do corporations. John Lennon said it pretty good, “A working class hero is something to be”
