Monday night – Douglas Sweets

Our friend Deb is on TV !… WCAX did a really nice piece on Douglas Sweets, Deb’s  Scottish shortbread company today, It’s so exciting to see her get this exposure.

We’ve been watching Deb grow this business for the last two and half years.. and have been very happy to be part of her taste testers :-). These are really, really  good cookies..   I love the chocolate dipped ones.. .. I also love how Deb is already doing giveback even as she grows the business. She’s been a big support of the Sam Cohn Foundation we use to support Kids here in Vermont .. She even made a special product called Sam Scones.. that come with a SamStone inside

We’re really proud of you Deb !

Hmmm the only other noteworthy thing that happened today was that I gave a Jolts and Volts show at the Governors Institute  Engineering program tonight. So Fun .. really great group of kids this year… Here are a few scenes from the evening..

a little fun shocking chains of students.

After the show we all went outside for a little craziness…

then a short demo fo the laser cuter..

a really great night.. and proud of my friend Anne for leading her first GIV program !.. Go Anne !

OK.. time for bed..

Sunday night – a day behind

I didn’t get to post my pictures last night.. so here are a few pics from yesterday.. First visitor was Michael, A long trail hiker who we picked up off the street and fed.. nice guy, used to work in the MIT Media lab where I once worked as well !  he might be ourone of our last long trail hikers as the new bridge will take our house off the long trail route !

by about 10, the house was full of kids.. they all had been sleeping here.. soemhwhere.. I thin I counted 12 of them !

then later in the day, another nice surprise.. Parker was in town.. He, Conner and Eric dropped by right before I left for the phish show. It was really good checking in with them.. Gabe went boating with them on the winosski which sounded fun !

I then drove the 2 hours down to Schroon lake to pick up my buddy Jim for the concert.. here’s Archie who met me as I drove up to Jim’s family’s lake house..   Beautiful !

here are jim and his family.. al really funny and nice folks ..

Jim and I drove down to SPAC and got there just as Chris  and Kim got there..It was so great to see them.. though  They had some very weird/sad news..   It feels strange to insert it here.. but here. goes.

They had tried to go tubing yesterday wth their friends Abby and Adam.. they were all loaded on a converted school bus to haul them to the put-in.. Somewhere along the route, the bus’s breaks failed as the bus was goign downhill. the bus flipped over and one of the young tour guides , a boy named Hunter’ was thrown from the bus… and killed.. everyone had to climb out of the roof of the bus … it was so sad .. they were all still in shock…  they decided to go to the concert anyway.. since there was nothing esle they could do… the story made me so sad… that poor kid.. and his family… The story is here.

and then.. we …..

man.. it seems strange to go on from there….

…. we went into the show..

we had great seats.. (second row).. I got to watch these two deaf interpreters ‘sing’ the songs  in ASL for a few deaf concertgoers

it ws a really nice time… it was so great hanging out with Jim.. I hadn’t gotten to spend much time with him since his accident.. He was in such a great place.. happy, in love with the world and fun to hang out with..

we got back to Schroon around 1.. and I decided to stay the night.. .. here’s this morning..

i got on the road around 8.. and drove back through a perfect picture postcard day..

I stopped in to say hi to homer as i drove through.. he was making some very cool signs..

I got home around 11.. we took a hike, a swim.. then went over to our friends and neighbors the Quinns. Our dear frind Janet Quinn died a year ago today so the family all came together to remember.. it was great seeing everyone..

Devin was there with his new baby Cameron and really nice GF shantal.

Here’s four generatiosn of Quinns… Cameron, Devin. mie and pat.. pretty cool !

OK.. i gotta sleep.. More tomorrow..

Friday night – Fourth !

Great fourth of july here in Richmond.. It’s one of my favorite days of the year because I get to see so many folks in our small town come out and socialize. I really do love this place.

First thing on the agenda oday was the parade.. As always we gathered at the Bressors to watch the firetrucks, ponies skaters ,bands,  politicians and antique cars..

as always, our friend marshal was the last one in the parae.. dancing and limber on those stilts.. amazing.

then we headed over to volunteer green to eat french fries and check out the vendors, see friends and just hang out..

Then home for a day of hanging out with friends, family and food !

ellen with salad..

funky strawbery we found.. it looks like.. oh.. never mind..

three kinds of eggplant salad !

jim and his tattoos of his kids artwork .

here we are trying to stay warm.. it was in the low 60s.. maybe even the high 50’s//

gabe and raya looked like twins !

finally. fireworks in the park. We watched them from the bressors.. tit was great seeing the early ones against the not quite dark skies..

i love the spiders left in the air..!

and.. as always. I’ll leave on a negative..

hope you all had a good 4th as well. Go America !
