Sunday night – birthnight

It’s still my birthday.. well, birthnight now, i guess.

I had a really good birthday today.. didn’t do much.. went for another longish snowshoe with my girls, This afternoon I went to a restorative yoga session that Diane and mMrci were putting on.. really blissful.

Right before Yoga, friend Joanne came over to help me take a picture for me. I need a ‘grown up’ picture for something i’m doing next fall. here’s what we came up with. what do you think ?

Afteryoga, diane drove all the way into Winooski to get us Vietnamese food from Pho Dang just for my birthday. YUM !

For desert, Gabe and I tried making a Samstone using  thermite. it didn’t work .. but the results were still cool. We made a samstone out of wax

then we packed sand around it.. after sieving the sand to remove the big pieces. then we mixed the thermite and put it in a flowerot over the can witht he sand and wax samstone

then we lit the thermite with a torch.. WOOOOSH.. a huge fire ball and smoke and the flowerpot cacked and glowed.. i can post the movie tomorow..

after a few minutes to cool we cracked everything open.. alas.. no samstone.. but…

we got the coolest ‘bubble ‘ of iron i’ve ever seen. It’s a perfect hollow metal shell of pure iron…

pretty cool way to end my birthday

thanks for all the good wishes folks. means the world to me

By the time I finish writing this post I will be 55 years old. That's amazing to me! I've never been that old before. I have to say it feels pretty good.

I had a great day which meant doing very little actually. Diane and I and the dogs got out for a good long snowshoe up in the hills.

I came back worked on a project for a while and then friends showed up for a nice dinner

Friday night – indefatigable

I had a great laugh today when a friend of mine described me in writing as 'indafategable'..

Ha ! I say.. ha !

I may look like that fromt he outsie, but I am edfintely feeling fategable ! Im about as fategalated as i can remember being in a very long time..

Theres a polar vortex of work projects, hobby projects, work unertainty, sleepless nights , road trips an impening birthdays that absolutely is making my head spin…

But somehow. Im still feeling pretty happy.. .. Happy, but ftigable

Maybe its the birthday

Thursday night – almost japan

Diane and i just got back home froma. 'Quick' trip to state college, Pa to do some outreach with our freinds bruce, marybeth and brad, and to see our friends kate, shannon and steve. I el goo abou the meeins i had at psu

I say the trip was 'quick' because Diane drove three quarters of both ways. On the 10 hour trip . That allowed me to work both ways in the car because I have wireless. I noted just before we got home that each way was about the same amount of time it took to fly to Japan and back which is something I've done quite a few times the last few years. The nice thing was that I had my best buddy Diane in the pilot seat.

Another bonus was that we were able to stop in and see Diane's mother for about an hour on the way back. It was great seeing her that she seems to be doing well.

I took a minute to go down to the basement where we that always worked with my father-in-law gabe's tools. I wanted to get something from there to as a keepsake but I didn't want to take any of the tools either of my sons would miss. I settled on a jar of thread cutting oil. It's the kind of thing you use a couple of times year so it will last forever. It's also the kind of thing no one would miss. I was happy to have it

After lunch we took the now short feeling 6 Hour Drive home. And I never missed a meeting.

Like I said… To Japan and back.
