Monday Night – Serborn

We woke today to the news that my father in law, Gabe had fallen and had another stroke. He’s been in a nursing home since February after a first stroke. He’s been making steady progress since. This morning he fell and was taken to the hospital. At first it looked very serious..

We were in Sherborn for my father’s 83rd birthday and my mother’s 80th when we go the news.. we were going to head to Endicott this morning.. . as the day progressed, he seemed to improve to the point he was able tosit up and  say a few words by this evening. .He’s continuing to improve which is great.. ..  We’re heading there at 4AM (in 5 hours) to see him..

The decision to stay here in Sherborn for the rest of the day was a hard one for us.. but it worked out. We were able to celibrate my mom’s 80th which is actually Sept 2.

We did our best to get a family picture though we were missing Shaun, Chris, John L, Gabe.. and of course Sam..

We had soem time to just mess around.. which was easier as each report on Big gabe improved.

Snday might – dad’s pirthday party

Diane, Gabe and I are down in Sherborn at a birthday party for my dad and a mini=-family reunion. Max will be joining us here tomorrow morning. My brother Billy and 4 of his kids and my sister and her three kids are here as well.. Mary’s husband John will be joining later in the week. Billy’s wife Shuan and son Chris can’t make it because of school stuff for Chris..

We spent the afternoon bonding with the nieces, nephews and cousins we don’t see very often..   Gabe hung out with cousins Theo

Saturday night – harvest

Enjoying our first day back in Vermont… The air is thick and sweet… So are the mosquitoes .

i didn't do much today other than readjust. Managed to cut the grass, a job I try to avoid doing as much as possible. There was a pleasure talking myself do something that I didn't like.

One high point of the day was the first tomato sandwich of the year… Our garden is full of tomatoes of every color red yellow green even purple… And even some jalapenos… I love this time of year.

Friday night – Into thick air

On our way home from a truly wonderful family vacation in Durango Colorado. It was one of the more grown-up vacations I've ever taken. The 6 of us (Diane. Max, Jac, Gabe and Raya and I) spent the week in a rented house, with a rented car and ate rented food… We packed a ton of stuff into each day … lots of it outdoors. We hiked, ran, rafted/kayaked and visited ruins ate well… slept well and just enjoyed hanging out.. We had an 80 inch TV in the house.. and it only got turned on twice.

. I felt like a middle aged couple on vacation with their grown up kids….

…and….. well…. I guess we are . and I'm grateful for that..

We're not flying back to BTV to rejoin the working world.. thanks to the duel miracle and cusrse of airborne wireless I've spent the last 4 hours transforming the vague dread of wondering what I've missed at work in the past week to the vague dread of knowing what I've missed.. not a bad bargain.. As I know.. the world turns fine without us..

I'm really looking forward to breathing at 300 feet above sea level.. this past week we've spent at about 9000 feet.. with a few ventures to 10,000… there just weren't enough air molecules to go around for my tastes.. Running actually felt like I was trying to get exercise instead of the mindless and pretty effortless thing I'm used to.. Water boiled in funny ways, cakes came out flat and my brain felt like I had an icepick in it for about half of our visit..

but it was a nice icepick and grew to love it like the rest of our vacation.

I'm looking forward to having air that you need to claw your way through… air you can taste !

i'm also really looking forward to seeing our Dogs.. I miss them so much when we travel.. People you can call.. but withdogs you need to smell one another…

OK.. gotta get back to my mound of email.. and we'll be landing soon.. I can feel the plane already dipping towards responsibility..
