saturday night – emu

Blissfully quiet day.. In fact the first day in many month I can remember waking up with nothing pressing to do .

I therefore can’t make a very good accounting of my time today.. nothing much happened.

I did manage to get out for my first run in a week since I got the flu.. it felt great to be outside .

This afternoon. Diane and I went over to Jill and Mark’s to meet up with some other friends for an evening of partner yoga, wine and basketball..   I understood the yoga and the wine.. but the basketball put me to sleep ., I will never be a sports fan..

We just got hoe to find Gabe and Jack  telling us about the Eu  they saw in the field behind our house.. That’s right.. an Eu.. They unfortunately didn’t get pictures.. but they chased the thing up into the woods, by that tie gave was able to get his movie camera out.. Here’s a clip of one of the movies.. the prints are between 6 and 8 inches across. The bird was brown.. higher than Gabe’s waist and ran on two legs.. It had a long stride..and definitely couldn’t fly.

We know that there are a nuber of Emu farms in veront.. but none close to here..

Does anyone know if someone is missing an emu ?

Friday night – happy birthday sweet Diane !

We had an unbelievably fun and relaxing day. Diane and I went  to the Inn at Essex to celebrate her birthday.. We got to spend nearly 24 hours together with just the two of us.  It was a wonderful escape.. Diane is always so busy taking care of other people mentally, emotionally  and practically.. that it was lovely having nothing to do , no one to see and nowhere to go.   I just so love hanging out with her.. And I feel so lucky to be able to say that after 30 years of being together.

we had planned on a snowshoe this afternoon but the giant snow storm that was predicted for the day never

aterialize.. Instead we went and saw ‘The King’s speech’.. which I quite liked..

We got home around 4… and soon after were joined by a coupe of friends for an informal birthday dinner for Diane..

It was the end of a really perfect day..

Happy birthday Diane.. we all love you so very much !

– nite all, nite sa.. we’re thinking of you today

Thursday night – take out

Is it wrong to ask your charming wife… who’s birthday it is tomorrow.. to run out for take out in the middle of a romantic weekend ? I hope not.. becase i just did that.. so I can fire off the quickest of short blog posts..

Today was an unbelievable convergence of stuff.. both work wise and personal.. most importantly.. it’s the night before Diane’s birthday and I’ve spirited her away to an unnamed location for a night of take out and television.. two indulgences we never get…  She’s such a wonderful soulmate, love, . consultant, partner, co-conspirator, foil, facilitator, and friend. .. .. it’s wonderful to have the time together…

The rest of the day was a series of two really big work deadlines  and a pretty big talk I had to give at UVM this afternoon.   All went ok. not great.. not badly.. but.. they’re done.. All I could think about was getting to Diane…

Not a bad place to be when you’ve been together nearly 30 years.. no ?

More tomorrow.. I smell take out

Wednesday night – waiting for saturn

!0:30 at night.. after a very long day.. First meeting at 8AM .. last meeting at 9PM. prepping for 3 big things tomorrow.. and finally sitting down to breath.. And for the first time in a week .. I actually can breath.. my fever broke sometime last night .. and I actually went in to work. It felt great to be upright..

Not much to report for the day.. but the big new for tonight is that Saturn is approaching opposition.. that means it’s exactly opposite the sun from the earth.. that means it’s supposed to be up all night.. It seems, however, that Saturn isn’t reading the same articles as I am as it is still hiding just below the rim of Robin’s mountain.. still out of site.. I’ve even dragged down my telescope just to take a peak.. but I’m not sure I can stay awake . Supposedly it’s worth a look as the rings which have been nearly invisible for the past couple of years are now angled so you can see them again.. It’s been years since I’ve looked at Saturn.. actually. I realized as I unpacked my scope that I haven’t had it out since Sam died.. It always strange reaching into a bag or box from ‘before’ and touching something I last touched ‘then’ .. I always get this weird shock of connection  to a simpler and more complete time ..

Ahh welll.. I’m going to go look for that ringed rascal…. Here’s an old picture I once took of saturn using a web cam and my satelite.. not great.. but it is kinda saturny
