Today is the annual meeting of the NAtional Academy of Engineering . This is my thrid time attending. I love the meetigns for the people you get to meet. SO many accomplished folks from so many disciplines. ..
My first stop was a meeting on Diversity.. we’re trying to make the organization more representative of the diversity of the us population. we have a long way to go
THen came the induction of new members.. I remember how fun it was when I got inducted>
My freind (and former boss) dario got inducted today. I was so happy to see him get this honor
Later on Diane and I had our section dinner.. Great seeing my friends
We had a day to ourselves today.. The NAE meeting’s not till tomorrow. We started with a great run hazy morning
We took the rest of the day to wander around. One desitination was the Arttechhaus. We’d see one of their places in Houston. THis one was smaller.. but still cool
Next stop was the National Portrait gallery and Museam of American Art. It’s in the old Patent office.. It used to house all the old patent models..
Mixed in with the portrait were soem of the old patent models.. So cool to see
We also loved lookign the the modern american collection
We wandered back towards the mall where a latin american festival was takign place.. there were three band stages and a ton of stalls with food and crafts from all over central america. El salvador,. nicaragua, hondouras, panama.. It was so fun!
Late this afternoon we headed to the airport and flew down to DC.. THe Annual meetign of the Natioanl Academyis this Sunaday and Monday. so we made it into a weekend trip to see Matt, Caroline, Anna dn new baby James.. THe great thing is that Matts mom and dear front Kate is goign to be in town too. .. . We arrainged it soe we’d meet Kate at the Airport so we could share an uber to Matt and carolines
We got to Matt and Carolines and got our first introduction to baby james !
Matt gave us a ride to our hotel. We checked in and took a walk out on the mall..
Super fun day at work.. cant go into it.. but loving my work right now
One funny thing .. Diane aand I are planning a trip in November to get out of VT for stick season. we’re exploring options like driving between max and beckys in Santa fe to Gabe’s in Portland.. I’ve been using my good friend ChatGPT to help with the planning. asked it (him ? Her ?) to create a map for us.> This si what it came up with.. Look closely.. looks liek AI still has soem learnign to do
Sepaking of novemenr.. its startubg to really feel like fall. We need a fire many mornings now
After work I put some time into Rebars project for Ben. We have to find just the right type of actuator.. I spent several hours on alibaba tryiing to make sense of some of the specifications
