Friday night – huge day

today was a huge, long , fun day..

Diana and I went out for a quick explore in the morning. It’s been a lot of time working on the camp and fluffy and just needed to get out. We went and saw the man which was fun. They also visited Max at his camp and visited our cousins to see our cousin.

Mid afternoon we all met up again and went as all four of us to the temple. The temple is a part of burning man that is devoted to healing and remembrance. It’s a large wooden structure that’s burnt in the final day of burning man. I go to every year and bring things like stones… This year we brought samstones and a bunch of pictures of Sam, my dad, Diane’s parents, Dylan, Marie and for each hung some pictures and wrote some stuff and thought about them and cried a lot. It was hard and it felt very good. We put all of the pictures n, a picture of Ozzy Osbourne because we knew Sam would like that.

All around us people were doing the same thing for their loved ones. It was very very moving

Sam would have loved burning  Man, but would’ve rolled his eyes about the temple..

But we were there we ran into our cousin Ben, who had pictures of Arnold and Ellen… That was pretty special to run into him just randomly like that with pictures of our common and lovely relatives.

Anyway… We walked around and took in the scene. It was both heavy and heartening.

I think Gabe even wrote that on a picture of Dylan… “Dylan you would’ve hated this place”…..

The temple was not about remembering our loved ones and friends who had died… It was also a place to make other tributes. Gabe burnt his Darol because he had achieved his goal relating to his degree.

We left feeling good about our visit. We went home and got ready to go out for the night

aroudn. 9 we blinged up and headed out on fluffy.. we styed out until 5 AM.. it was one of the most fun nights I can rememner of my life.. which is say alot. it was so great beign with family. playing with fluffy  meeting people and seeing them enjoy fluffy.. sooooooooooooo fun !!

around 11 pm we went and met up with our friends at the loop . They were still working on their lights and it struggled. I woke up with the idea of using the four par can tflood lights to help them light their piece.. when we got there tonight we saw how well that had worked out. The piece was beautiful. We had several fire spinners, including some neighbors like our friend not a spider. Max also had his staff so it was a beautiful fire show. At one point in the show Claire got up on top of the loop and spun. It was so beautiful.!!

I saw a guy named Chris in the crowd who had also made synchronized rope lights just like mine. It was so fun talking to him.

It was so great to see the loop people enjoying their own work. It was a beautiful piece. And they had managed to be successful against a lot of pushback. I was so happy for them.

From there, we went out to look at art  and dance.. Max and aaron wre djing and they were so good !until about 5 AM

At one point evening we came across a beautiful art car that I’ve seen previous years. It had these really cool snake eyes and what was strange is that my glasses at exactly the same code. I put my glasses on snake and ran into the other guys car I found him… He couldn’t believe that I had the same eyes. It was a really, really fun moment.

We got home about 5 AM to find that Bert and Elizabeth’s camper had been locked. Max and Gabe save the day. Max climbed up on the roof and was able to work open a bathroom vent. Gabe took off almost all clothes and was able to slip in down through the vent and go and open the door. I didn’t get any pictures of that, but I found some posted. I’ll try to figure out where they are and post them.

This was an epic night of the most fun nights I can ever remember in my life.

And that’s saying alot

I really love having my family out here

Thursday night – fun and quiet day

Today was pretty quiet… Some friends of ours that we’ve met out here a couple years ago from Netherlands came by. They actually had had their wedding on fluffy. They came back to tell me where they had put the samstone we’ve given them. It was really lovely to see them.

Diane , gabe and I headed out to see our friends at the loop. They were looking structurally good.. but were still way behind with their lighting. A combination of the weather and some personal changes made things tougher. We spent a few hours trying to help them. We actually got stuff blinking, which was great. It was important to have some lights on it because the department of Public Works was threatening to have them close because they didn’t have enough lights to avoid collisions at night. That would’ve been a huge shame. I was very impressed with all of the loop people skunk an and alencia and Seamus was still kind and cool even with all of this pressure

it was a pretty quiwt day..
fun but queit

Wednesday night – mudville.. and then fun

Last night was pretty quiet. We just all hunkered down and tried to sleep. It rained hard… The later found out. It was about a quarter inch of rain, which is pretty bad out there. There is standing water everywhere. Our camp was completely covered with a thin slick of rain, which quickly turned into a thick pile of mud. We did our best to try to push the water away from where we didn’t want it towards where ever it would go. It was kind of fruitless and kind of disheartening. But we still rallied and got together and started cooking breakfast which raised everybody spirits

The roads were still pretty hard to travel on. Bikes were pretty useless, and cars were asked to stay still. We kept listening to the burning man radio, and I was monitoring my mesh tastic radios. Eventually things started to brighten up and water started to dry up. By late afternoon, we were actually able to move around. Diana and I had signed up to help Max and his other camp with a burn… It was called “the lovers” it was set of two trans lovers wooden tarot cart thing. It was to have been burned couple of years ago, but couldn’t be because of the rain. We had signed up to be perimeter watcher, which was really fun. For all its craziness Bernie safety very seriously

after that burn, diane and I biked home. grabbed a grill cheese for dinner (we’d missed scampi).. and got blinged up to go out on fluffy. it was our first big night !

we were up until about 4 Am driving around, pickign up people, playign music and seeign art. We stopped at one other site to listen to madison orange and see some fire spinning..

it was SOOOOOOO fun.. and so great to be sing people enjoy fluffy !

Tuesday night – more wind, more art, rain

Woke up this morning to a bit uncertain weather. Our first excursion today was going to be to the mobility camp. Fluffy set up with a wheelchair lift and we’ve been asked to run an art tour for people who were mobility challenged. We went to pick them up, but the weather was starting to look iffy so out of an abundance of cauti camp decided not to go out. That turned out to be a good decision, though we were not to be able to do this.

Since we were out, we decided to drive around and see some art. We visited our friends at the loop to check in on how much progress they were making and how much the wind had set them back. The piece looks great though they have a lot more to do.

One s.

One of the coolest things we saw was a very nice stained glass museum that had pieces of notable art from Burns past. It was fun to see some of the things we knew… El Popo was on there of course… So fear beast from max and Becky’s late freind Tigre, max and beckys freind Max .. and some other great pieces that I’ve seen over the years

Max started up the music and DJ as we drove around… He is absolutely amazing. Of all the DJs I saw performed this week. He was the most engaging and got writers pumped.

we started to set up t our deep playa swag shw that DK had desogned.. with lots of free fluffy stuff. .    Before long though we started to see dark clouds coming in from the west… We didn’t know what kind of weather it was, but we knew from our first storm. This was nothing we could mess around with. We started to head back to camp.

luckily.. we got back to camp and waited out the mini dust storm.

Once that past, we tried again.. tis time successfully and went out , delivered swag and handed out cold beer !

people really appreciated the beer and swag.. ..

a bit later, the sky started to darken again.. so we hiightailed it back to camp. We got there just as the first rain hit.

we all hunkered down to wait out the rain. Rain on the pliers never good because it makes the plants dust into cement, cars and bikes can’t move and anyone who walks around develops “Playa platforms” increasingly thick of cement dirt on their shoes. We ended up holding up for the night. At one point and Gabe and Randy and several others, making quesadillas camper… They started handing them out which was fun… We got to bribe them for better service

Its gonna be a long night !
