Wednesday night – Sam Cohn award

Diana I just came back from Bolton Valley. But the first time I've been up on at the Resort all this year. It felt good to go back there. We were there for the last night of the Bolton night riders Series. It's a pick up competition on Wednesday night for snowboarders and skiers. Gabe and Sam Both used to compete. It was fun hanging around downstairs waiting for them to give out the awards. It had the familiar smell of ski boots and french fries. There were a few familiar faces there, but for the most part they were younger kids that I Have never met.

Our friend Burke won the skiers over 18… Nice !

They gave out all of the awards for tonight , skiers, snowboarders different age groups, etc. Then they get out the awards for the entire series. There were some pretty sweet prizes: skis and snowboards, backpacks coats it's all about the swag

Then it was time for the Sam Cohn award . Every year since Sam died we give out the award to the kid who's out there having the best time and gives back most to the others onthe mountain. the kid's peers help choose the winner. I got up and saidm a few words about Sam and about the award. It was funny feeling knowing that most of these kids Not only didn't know Sam , they probably didn't know about. Him. It made me feel even more important to give the award. This year the winner with Jake Pratt a very nice kid who lives around the corner from us. . He was pretty happy to win.

Tuesday night – snow day

Worked at home today and remained glued to my chair all day.. I was s o engrossed in work that i barely noticed that it was snowing all day. Around 6:30 Diane came in and scraped me out of my chair to go fro a walk.. Lo and behold… We'd gotten somewhere between 8 and 10 inches of new snow..the snow and the post daylight savings time late afternoon sun were a wonderful close for a busy day

Monday night – happy stress

I was texting with one of my very best friends today And I asked him how he was doing. Texting makes for compact communication. his response was 'happy stressed'. I laughed out loud. A perfect answer. One that describes his and my normal state of being it means both happy and stressed at the same time.. And Even a little bit happy for being stressed. I suspect that there are many adrenaline junkies out there who know exactly what we mean.

In that spirit I had a happy stressed day… I'm working on some really cool stuff at work and, at the same time, I have too many projects outside of work. Today we met for a soldering party on our 'floorish' exhibit. We made good progress… But like any project we have miles to go.

I'm about as far as I could be from Irish but everyone is Irish tonight I guess. You know, I always somehow dread Saint Patrick's Day for a funny reason. When I was Five years old in nursery school, a girl named Monica pinched me really hard because I wasn't wearing green on St. Patrick's Day. Not only did it hurt quite a bit… But I was so embarrassed that i did not know this long-standing custom. I tried to explain that I was going to grow up to be a neurotic New York style Jewish guy, but she explained to me that we were in Texas and everyone was Irish on St. Patrick's Day. I was so confused by this that I completely missed the point that she probably liked to me in a nursery school style crush sort of way or she wouldn't have pinched me in the first place. But I guess that's just besides the point

That was almost 50 years ago but still as the day approaches I search frantically for green things to wear. I don't really like green so I don't have any green clothes. I break out into a cold sweat as the thought of showing up at work wearing something that is not green enough.

That thought almost kept me inside all today. But the beautiful weather finally won out and Diane and I went onan ambitious snowshoe up near bolton mountain. I kept looking over my shoulder wondering if the deer or bear was going to come out and pinch me because despite my best intentions I think I was decked out all in blue.
