Sunday night – dream of sam

Quiet and Cold here Today. Linda and David took off this morning around 10. It was so so nice having them here. It was cold and raw, too cold to go out and run. Not enough snow to snowshoe or ski. So we just stayed in. The rest of the day was pretty quiet. We went to Marcy’s house for Finns three-year birthday which was fun.

And we had a quick dinner at Jen and Tim’s which was fun as well.

The rest of the day I spent puttering in the lab which was down time I sorely needed.

While I worked, I thought about a dream that I had night before last. It was a dream about Sam. In the dream I had found a small electronic button. It was about an inch And a half wide. . When I pushed it, I could see and hear Sam as he was when he was about 10. I kept pushing the button and listening and watching him. It was so clear and so funny and so much fun. Then I realized that he was actually talking to me. Each time I pushed it he told me that I could really talk to him. And I did. It was a little strange because you could only have about a five second conversation.… In the conversations couldn’t span between the button Clicks. Even so, it was great to be able to talk to him like that. He seemed like he was doing well and was having fun. I woke feeling really good.

I was trying to figure out why such a dream would make me feel good not sad. I didn’t come up with a good answer. But I guess there really isn’t one.
I have to confess I rummaged around in some of my junk drawers trying to find that button or something that look like it. But no luck.

I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

Saturday night – Linda and David

We had a wonderfully restful day hanging out with our good friends Linda and David.. They’re up visiting from Endicott with their 14 year old dog Eliza.

Linda and Diane grew up together and have been friends forever. they even drove us to our wedding 26 years ago… Having friends in town is an excuse to really slow down and hang out.. We started the morning late with a walk on the river shore.. .

-The river was flowing like it was march and the ice on the shore had that spring like crystal tinkle as you stepped on it.

David an i then headed off by ourselves.. One stop was the book sale at the library,. Saw half the town there.l as well as a bunch of books that i think used to be mine.. .

Then we went to see friend chris’s sculpture and rock garden

Freom there we headed down town for a walk though burlington…

Were all sitting around now in a food coma trying to get the energy to go up to bed…

Theres no friends like old friends….

Friday night – the sky is falling !

What a strange day in terrestrial history… ! Today the world was inhaling a bit to make sure that asteroid 2012da14 eased by us when another smaller but better aimed projectile skidded into the earths atmosphere over the ural mountains in russia. In sure the two events are linked… But still.. Its a lot to take in for a single day.
2012da14 was big enough news.. At about the size of an apartment building, it was big enough to o some serious mischief to our planet should it have hit… And almost hit it did. It came within 17,200 miles of the earths surface.. Hats a hairs breadth in astronomical terms.. Consider that the earth is only about 8000 miles across.. Hats only two earth diameters distance from the surface of our planet. To put that in further prospective.. Thats about 1/10 th the way to the moon… Whew !
But the ruck that hit russia was even bigger news to me.. I just read that aver a 1000 folks were injured .. Though none seriously i hear… When this chunk of rock streaked through the sky at 33,000 mph. Early this morning. There are some amazing photos on the Internet of the contrail left as the air behind it cooled. It brought to mind the famous tanguska event .. Where another asteroid. Entered the atmosphere over russia in June of 1908 and exploded in the air….. The blast leveled trees in an area more than 800 square miles.

To this day, some fringe science lovers attribute that blast to an experiment gone horribly wrong (or wonderfully right) by nikola tesla.. At the time tesla was working on his never completed giant tesla coil at wardencliff long island…

Todays events really remind us that we live in a wonderfully dynamic and unpredictable universe…

Thats all the reason i need to go get a second helping of chocolate cake from the fridge…
