Tuesday night – hangout

Busy day.. And complicated one . it began with a really bad talk i gave for a bunch of students from a local college..it totally bombed . Im not sure what went wrong.. Maybe it was too early, or my message was off.. But i really did not connect. This was my 14th University talk this year (believe it or not) ..and the first one thats gone badly.. I guess you need to suck sometimes if you are going to stay sharp.
No scratch that.. It sucks to suck..but it happens sometime, i quess.

The rest of the day was busy and productive work stuff… I did have a cool lunch meeting with some maker colleagues in sweden.were planning a joint event between ibm, malmo university in sweden and the. Vermont makers. We had a short coordination call today using google hangout.. http://www.google.com/+/learnmore/hangouts/
Its a really great tool for small meetings like this,,l so far its the best/easiest multi person video conference sw I’ve used. Ive never been a big fan of video conferencing because it never really works..but miraculously..this seems to actually work reliably. Check it out

Monday night – Getting to be a lot like….

It has started.. today I walked in the grocery store and heard my first strains of christmas music.. I know by the calendar that it must have been going for the past week.. but then, I don’t get out much.. .. I noted more chritmas lights up on my drive home from work.. and even spied a christmas tree in one house.. The signs are up for ‘cut your own’ trees.. and the mail box is full of catalogs…

This year, like all of the past 6, brings a mix of emotions… that’s natural. I guess
all in all, I like the season.. i lie the weather.. I like shopping.. I like the decorations. but most of all , I love the distraction.. everyone is running around sort of out of their minds… whether its end of year work deadlines or shopping.. or just love of christmas, everyone’s minds are on a thousand different things.. that they should/could be doing.. Maybe I like it because the worlds distraction level catches up with my own ? Maybe I just love the chaos.. Now if i can just find that Alvin and the Chipmunks song.. the mood will be complete

nite all, nite sam..

Sunday night – Richmond, VT in the future

Diane and deb have been hard at work redecorating and cosifying decorating the house . Diane painted the upstairs and set me up with a really sweet office in one of the bedrooms upstairs. She also framed and hung a bunch of pictures. Its great to have new things to look at. One of the pictures she hung downstairs is an image from an old postcard we found while browsing in flea market in pennsylvania many years ago…it was a funny postcard titled ‘ richmond, vt in the future’ published by the owl drug store. Its a goofy prediction of our tiny town at some point in the future served by trolly’s, overhead subway and hot air transport. The owl is long gone.. but one mention i found on the internet said that it existed between 1907 and 1930. We couldn’t believe that we found this thing so far away from home.. And in such a coincidental way.. Check these out

Saturday night – qeah

Quiet Evening at Home – (QEAH)….sitting on the couch after watching a movie with my girl as the wind blows crazy outside. Spent most of the day working…. Got in a good run and enjoyed the cold and snow. Not much in the way of plans for tomorrow either. Enjoying the down time .

I know that must be the most boring blog post ever written….

Isn’t that nice ?

On second thought… Maybe ill include a poem about nothing happening…
It on of my favorites.. Its called Tension… By Billy Collins

Tension

“Never use the word suddenly just to
create tension.”
—Writing Fiction

Suddenly, you were planting some yellow petunias
outside in the garden,
and suddenly I was in the study
looking up the word oligarchy for the thirty-seventh time.

When suddenly, without warning,
you planted the last petunia in the flat,
and I suddenly closed the dictionary
now that I was reminded of that vile form of governance.

A moment later, we found ourselves
standing suddenly in the kitchen
where you suddenly opened a can of cat food
and I just as suddenly watched you doing that.

I observed a window of leafy activity
and, beyond that, a bird perched on the edge
of the stone birdbath
when suddenly you announced you were leaving

to pick up a few things at the market
and I stunned you by impulsively
pointing out that we were getting low on butter
and another case of wine would not be a bad idea.

Who could tell what the next moment would hold?
Another drip from the faucet?
Another little spasm of the second hand?
Would the painting of a bowl of pears continue

to hang on the wall from that nail?
Would the heavy anthologies remain on their shelves?
Would the stove hold its position?
Suddenly, it was anyone’s guess.

The sun rose ever higher.
The state capitals remained motionless on the wall map
when suddenly I found myself lying on a couch
where I closed my eyes and without any warning

began to picture the Andes, of all places,
and a path that led over the mountain to another country
with strange customs and eye-catching hats
suddenly fringed with little colorful, dangling balls.
