Saturday night – homecoming

Happy Homecoming !.. it’s homecoming weekend.. lots of events planned.. some of which are on hold because of the weather. Diane and I had signed up to help cook today at the field. It was a hoot because there was such a strong wind. We were flipping burgers (until I admitted that I hadn’t eaten a burger since 1976).. The wind was blowing plates, cups and foil all over.. I ended up playing the outfield.. chasing down errant paper pates and such. Kept me busy !. We were joking that our burger joint would be called “Windy’s” .. (as in Wendy’s.. ok. you had to be there.. )

We’re now sitting in the house waiting for the relics of Hurricane Issac to come sweeping in..We’re expecting heavy rains and strong winds.. Everything’s canceled for tonight.: he party we were going to, the dance at the school. People are battening down. it reminds me a little of the wait for Irene. .. Like Irene.. it kinda looks like the danger is overstated.. right now it’s just a gentle rain and no wind. .. It was like that with Irene… it wasn’t until the next day that I fully appreciated what had happened here.

So.. we’re just waiting out the storm… keep dry everyone !

Friday night – art hop !

Just home form the Burlington Art Hop.. It’s a great city-wide happening when all sorts of folks come out to see all sorts of art. Diane and I got down there a little before 6. First stop was to see friend Chris’ opening at the Flynn Dog. He has some really great steampunk pieces. They are just so beautiful.. I’m so proud of chris.. I helped him a little by adding sound effects to the sub.. and gabe helped make some of the seaweed pieces..

My firend Kates stuff was in the same gallery space.

THen we drove back up the street to see the Vermont Makers.. Along the way we ran into so many old freinds. Here’s Urion , his borthe rand friends. Urion was in Sam’s band . he’s an awseom kid an awesome musician

there was music on pine street at several venues.. including right across from our Vermont makers space.

the stores were decked out as gallery’s too. here’s my favorite lighting store.

some guys out back doing glass blowing.

with soem great stained glass next door

our maker compound had soem great stuff. Jenn was there with her arduion baloon project, eric had lots of cool light bling, Steve had his qudcopter and colin brought the UVM light thingy..  We had a steady stream of folks com through all night.. we were letting them know about the Champlain Makers Faire  and the Vermont Makers meetups. i think we got soem good new recruits !

I also had my hoop there.. kids were playing  with it all night..

another nice lady came by with a commercial light up hoop somewhat like mine.. her’s was really nice.. .and it was cool to compare feeatures. Hers cost 370$ (Yow !)

Last stop was pine street studio to see yolk and friends. .. And I got to see the site of the possible Burlignton fablab.. space is great , needs work, but i saw the potential. Mayor Miro was there too and he even tried the hoop !

(sorry, didn’t get a picture of that 🙂

we live in such a hip state.. I love it.

OK.. I’m so exhausted.. More tomorrow.

Thursday night – inspired

Just got back from a 6 hour drive back from armonk. I was on work calls until 10pm.. Then hung up to relax.. I decided to turn on the radio and check out the democratic convention. Other than being a confirmed liberal, I don’t really pay much attention to Politics.. Almost everything i know about current politics i learn from either Jon Stewart or stephen colbert . Not a good admission, I know..that’s why I was so surprised at how much I enjoyed listening to an hour of the democratic convention. . I’m not sure what it was.. I could have done with a little less of the self congratulatory stuff about the last four years.. But I did like the frank admission of what had Not been accomplished, and the optimism for the future . Call me gullible.. But as I drove into my driveway after that long trip home.. I felt optimistic too..

Wednesday night – Dobbs Ferry

Greetings from… uhhhh.. where the heck am I. . Phone says ‘Elmsford NY’. so I guess that’s where I must be. woke today on the boat to find Max still awake from an all nite work session. I’m proud of how hard he’s working.

All day work meeting, so I don’t have much to report here other than  it was a  very cool work meeting with  smart people and interesting technology. .

We had a nice dinner at a place In Irvington NY that looked out over the Hudson  . We got to watch the sun set over the water.

The interesting thing I noted about Irvington is that itis right by Dobbs Ferry.. and very near Ardsley, the town where I lived until I was 3. Dobbs Ferry brings up some of the earliest memories I have as a kid I remember  my mom putting my brother and me in the car and driving down to Dobbs ferry to meet my dads train from the cty. ot was always a treat to go there… Of course I only know it was Dobs ferry from faily lore.. but tonight I could see myself and my family eagerly awaiting for my dad to get off the train.. that was 50 years ago.. yet I can still see it clearly in my minds eye..  It makes me happy thinking of it..

Dad.. , Mom.. do you remember those days ?  I love you both..

After that, I went to Terrytown to see my good buddies Lori and Jim.. and some of their freinds.. that was fun.. !  Now its late and i really must sleep.
