Monday afternoon – Sam at 20

Happy birthday Sam.. you would have been 20 years ago today. my son. Even though you are not with us physically, You are still so much part of our lives. I lay in bed this mornign trying to imagine what you would be like at 20. what would you be doing ? where would you be living..? Who knows…. ? It doesn’t matter, I suppose..
What does matter is that you are so much still in our hearts and minds.. and the hearts and minds of so many people. We’ve been able to watch your brothers grow, your freinds grow.. they’ve been here for us, we’ve been there for them.. and you live on somehow in that bond.

I also went through and pictured you at every year..I pictured myself with you.. the day you were born, our first walk together.. camping, swimming.. swinging around to crazy music.. that kind of stuff. you were falways un to be with… I spent a good long time looking at pictures of you. What a beautiful kid.. what a beautiful person. I even went in and listened to some recordings of your voice. it was so good to .. hear your voice

this afternoon freinds will come and we’ll think about you and toast you.. we’ll even cut a cake for you.. wherever you are….whatever you are now.. .. I hope you can feel the love from all of us..

I love you forever my son..
happy birthday Sam

Sunday night – Minotaur

Peaceful day.. and I needed it.. the coming of Sams birthday tomorrow has e in a sad and quiet place.. I worked around the house most of the day.. midday we headed over to freind Sharon’s house for lunch.. then my work buddy, Currie and his wife and two aunt in laws and their husbands showed up in an wonderful and unexpected visit..

around 7L3 we headed over to Chris and Kim’s for the end of their studio weekend… Chris had done a wonderful Minotaur sculpture that we were donating to the flames.. It was beautiful and stately.. Chris lit the fuse.. and this is what happened

it was so cool watching folks watch the burn.

now it’s time for bed.. tomorrow would be Sam’s 20th birthday..It’s a strange feeling.. certainly bitter sweet.. but I have to say.. more sweet with each passing year..

Happy almost birthday my beautiful son.. you’re in our hearts every minute of every day..

Saturday night – open studio

Peaceful day around the house. We woke to a cool array of moths around our back door.. the benefit of leaving the light on… .. This one looks like a leaf !

this one looks even more like a leaf. !!!

Midday, Gabe and I went over to freind Chris’s to see his open studio..It’s open studio weekend here in Vermont .. and many local artists and craftspeople are opening the doors to their workplaces and letting people like us take a peak. Chris’s place looked amazing.. he had a bunch of his works out.. and even had a few paintings by his freind Mike.. and some of Homer’s amazing metal paintings..

Chris is getting ready for his big burn tomorrow night.. this will be his fourth.. Tomorrow it will be a Minotaur that goe up in flame..

I’ve got some chemicals to help make it more colorful

It should be pretty spectacular. If you can make it, you should go.. I believe the burn is after 9…

OK.. all for now.. more tomorrow from Chris’s

Friday night – well worn path

Hot night in Jonesville.. it;s 75 degrees inside and out.. I don’t much like it over 60 degrees.. so I’m trying not to move much.. Good ,albeit hectic, week.. California, new york and it’s all the same street.. typically cities involved in their typical day dreams.. (wait.. that’s’ the grateful dead)..

I was trying to take today off, but didn’t really do that.. I took calls until about 3 then hung it up.. Gabes last season game of lacrosse was a good place to shake of the week.. hot and muggy but a good breeze. The guys played very well.. winning handily..

The big experiment tonight was making pizza on the grill.. we’re still in the grillymoon.. that wonderful time right after buying a grill that everything looks grillable.. Pizza worked surprisingly well !

Also soem grilled eggplant slices.. see.. carnivores don’t have all the fun !

Around sunset, Diane, Gabe, Raya , the dogs and I took a walk down by the river.. .. it was a sultry and sleepy kind of early evening..

we went on a short hike down the river shore trailt o see the ‘dame rockets’ .. or Flox.. which are weed like Flowers.. or flower like weeds that bloom for a short but beautiful time all across the states. they have are purples, bright pinks, whites and all shades in between ad they smell great.

we headed out just as the sun was setting..  here’s our house from across the street.. you can see the moisture in the air.

we got to the flowers just as it got dark.. we walked back in deepening evening.. diane and i realized we coould walk this trail with our eyes closed.. we run it 5-6 times a week. almost year round.. we figured we’ve gone up and down this trail about 3000 times in the past 8 or so years.

now starts the memorial day weekend .. ending on Monday as we mark Sam’s 20th birthday.. the walk up to his birthday is now, too, a familiar path..

i remind myself to just keep walking…
