Wednesday night – dads night

Tonight we had one of our roughgly quarterly dads group nights. As always we go to the hinesburg puplic house.. Its a great time to catch up with old freinds.. We reaclen this groub has been running for about 33 years.  .. We’ve all been thorugh alot together.. heartbreak and happiness.. Lots of love in there

My friend steve was there.. .. it brught back a great story.. I fires met steve on a plane somewhere.. he had some interesting ink including some stylized atoms on his arms.. I recognized them by there electron count that they were Carbon, Hydrogen Oxegyn and Nitrogen (CHON).. My name sideways.. It gave me an idea for a shirt that I made for the boys..using atoms to spell out our name.. THh catch was I couldn’t find any drawings of atoms as nice as steves.. I didn’t know him at the time.. buyt i managed to track him down and ask him for the art he’d used for the tatoo.. he shared it with me and the rest is history

Wow.. I was looking up the story and came across some pictures of steve’s tattoos.. In this post there’s also a  picture.. of the memorial stone for our friend Elijah..  We’ll never for get that fine young man. rest in peace friend  . http://johncohn.org/base/2014/05/30/friday-night-elijahs-stone/

Tuesday night – ice eggs

We still have beautiful snow.. but rain is coming.. diane and I decided to grab it while we could. We took a quick early morning hike up to duxbury window. On the way we notices these cool ice formations on Gleason Brook.. They look like frost fried eggs

I spend some of the day at our SOuth 40 site.. they have a great library there.. I found this book.. Great Ironic title..

My dad once saved Wes Anderson from drowning when he was a small kid. He’d fallen in the neighbors pool.. and our neighbor kid (aleksander- kumquat-george-and-I’m-a-grapefruit) came running out from behind his house. crying . and told me “my friend drowned:..   my dad heard what alex said and ran to the neighbors back yard. he pulled wes from the pool and gave him artificial respiration.. and he started breathing  again..

Hows that for a story  ?

Later on in the day..  yoga and soup night.. I love these potlucks

ahhh. I’m so luck y t be married to Diane <3

Monday night – the beauties and the beast

You know how APple sometimes makes photomontages of a subject or date… Don’t usually keep them.. But I got one today where I must’ve taken a Van de Graaff generator into work. I think it was two years ago and my friends the Clarks took turns playing with it. They all have fine white hair, which made it really good static material.

As a i nice contrast to the above ..

I had fun at work preparing for some experiments.. I caught this pic of my freind Yeseswi looking like an alien

good day !

Sunday night – old friends

We often call a cloudless winter day a ‘blue bird day” .. we had one of those.. but I’d call it a “red bird day” because we had this guy looking in our window this morning

Mid day we packed the car with all our snow things: snowshoes, skis, crapons and worm clothes to get the most of the beutiful snow. We headed to our friends Sandy and Michaels in Middlesex. Sandy is one of my oldest friends.. We’ve known each other since 5th grade.   I think thats about 53 years (!).. we were sort of neighbors back in Houston. My freidns all used to gether at sandys because her parent let us get aay with stuff..    they were great people.. and I miss them .  Sandy graduated early and went up to UVM. I used to come up and visit from time to time when I was at MIT. I clearly remember standing outside a bakery on main street in burlignton at 20 below zero and wondering how the heck folks could live here.. That was 46 years ago (!!).

ANyway,. it was great to see Sandy and Michael.. they’ve both retired. THeir daughter Rachel is living in Turkey after spending several years in China. THeir son Dan is living in Brooklyn.

We decided it was a good day for snowshoes, so we headed up in the woods near their house in Middlesex.. the snow was more than Kne deep whichis nice.. We havent had as much snow as we usually get here..

It was really great catching up with them.. and fillign them in on all teh stuff that we;ve been up to.

We had a great luch.. soup , fresh bread and salad.. all  with a great view of the snow

We headed back to richmond to change clothes.. then we headed to Beta.. Trevor is still in town and I wanted to give him and his friends a tour of Beta. .We met  up with Trevor and his friends Matt, Lizzy and James as well as our friend Nate and his great GF Hannah and took a look around Beta.. I think they really liked it !

Afterwards we tried to find a place to eat.. whcih proved to be harder than we thought on a sunday night. We ended up at Zacharys in South burlington. It was one of Trevors favorites back in the day,. it was nice for him to get to see it again.

Trevor is leaving tomorrow. for home in Texas. . so we sauf our goodbyes.. It was so great seeing him.. even after 14 years he was able to fit right back into our family like her never left !

It had been a great day with great old friends !
