Began the day with a really nice hike up to duxbury window. There were quite a few cars in the banforth parking lot. I think thats because all of the other camels hump trails are still closed from the flooding..
roads areound here are still a mess
It the afternoon I met up with my friend Derek and his friend Chirs to move the fire organ I had been storing at Earthkeep. I got hold of the thing with Max’s freind Mark needed to get it out of his storage in NYC. Diane and I rented a box truck and drove it back to VT and we stored it for a while at our freind John’s warehose, then moved it to Eatrthkeep. Fluffy’s lost our lease at Earthkeep so everything must go .. Derek answered my offer to re-house the organ at his house.. I’m super psyched to help him get it running
It felt both good and weird to pull all of our stuff out of Earthkeep. It’s been a great place to work.. but we no longer feel welcome there.
Today was the day that fluffy was being packed to travel. It turns out this year. Dwayne has found somebody to flatbed fluffy out to the desert, which is going to be a huge help… Today the crew packed all the clouds inside all of the gear and I finished buttoning up and backing up the computers and fire rig
We’re getting kicked out of our cozy spot at earthquake… When fluffy comes back, we don’t know where she’s going to live.… I’ve had lots of adventures here… I’ll miss this place
Diana and I were going to drive home and wash some of the fluffy dust off of ourselves before going out again, but we realized if we went home we both fall asleep so instead we drove up to Colchester to go to Jake and his family’s party. It was really an excellent party. Members of our friends band the worm dogs were playing and it was a wonderful potluck of all sorts of kind of food. There were many people there we knew from completely different life Jake’s mom dad and sister are so great. They really know how to put on a great party.
the Nees live only about 100 yards from the lake. We all went down there and watched the sunset.
Jake and I were telling people about the first time we met. He must’ve been 14 or 15… And I was helping run the Vermont mini maker fair. One of the things we had was the champ challenge where people had to make floating robots that could submerge and blow fire. Jake won the contest and I think that was the firs… I was able to find pictures of it in make magazine!
I usually don’t work on Fridays… But I went in today becauseMy friend and intern Dalton gave his final presentation. He did a really great job
I went home as the sky started to change… It was huge amount of wind and some rain and then all of a sudden the power went out. And I went outside to check.
it turns out we weren’t the only ones affected… People in Richmond Jonesville and Bolton were out with no planned up time.… It turned out that the lights were out until about 4 AM the next morning
we have had insane weather up here this summer with two floods and now this.… I think mother nature is really getting angry
When our kids were growing up, the teachers always used to call the last day of school the “happy last day”… It was sort of like an inoculation against any sort of sadness for something ending.… Since then we call every leaving. “happy last day”… This week marks the end of our interns programs. I’ve had a good fortune to work with my friend Isa and my friend Dalton. I’ve known both of them from previous years… But never worked this closely with them.
Every entering gives a summary at the end of their work… Today was and Sandra… Who I realize now is her first cousin. Both gave great talks. I really enjoyed working with Isa… She’s with good artistic skills and amazing ability to pick up new hardware and software skills. I think this was her first real shot at programming and she did an excellent job finishing up one of the projects that Shannon invented.
isa’s dad Lino works here at Beta is a good friend of mine.… It was funny to have Lino sister who is Sandra’s mom and their mom who is the grandmother of both Sandro and Isa… This is a real family oriented place
This is also the last week of work for my friend Dalton. He’s an aero-actor major at MIT. I really enjoyed working with him on a pretty complicated, electro mechanical project. He worked out some of the major electronics and software kink that will allow me to finish this design time as a sideline designed circuit board in the shape of our airplane… We had designed it last week and submitted it on Friday and had it back in time for him to give his final presentation.… How cool is that?
I really enjoyed working with both Isa and Dalton… And will miss them. I hope I get a chance to work with both of them again.
Outside of work “last day “… We’re about to send fluffy out to her third year on the Playa at Bernie Man. There is a flurry of activity to get her ready. I have back up equipment for all the electronics… This will be the first year that I’m out there to assemble the electronics and the systems. We’ve done a lot of work to cross train and tonight we had both fire and light school.
I feel like the stuff is in good hands. I’ve got some serious FOMO for not being out there this year, but we are going on a trip to Spain, which we’re all looking forward to so much.
