Thursday night – moving stuff

We’re working hard this week to finish up a new batch of demos in prep for our board of directors meeting next week. I love this kind of deadline because it really drives completion on things.  I love having a job that has me making things every day !  It also means having to move things frequently.

I helped Jake, and arron aaron mpove one of the displays between buildings.. It means gettign to play with bigger toys !

I celibrated a long day with another trip through the carwash..

Wednesday night – Bamforth, Make a wish and Fluffy

Very busy day.. Diane and I did a quick hike up 30 min on the Bamforth Ridge trail as I had a meeting to get to..

I came back midday and picked diane up for a trip tot he make-a-wish office. Make-a-wish organizes special wish-come-trues for sick kids and their family.. It might be a trip,. it might be meeting special people it might even be a swimming pool. the idea is to give these kids and their family a little releife from the hard work of being  sick.

The make a wish director Jamie is a great guy. Hes reaching out to me/us to help add some interactive experiences to the wish reveal parties they have for the kids and their families.. I wanted diane to see the layout of the space they use to make the reveals. It’s a `15 foot cylindrical silo.. they’ve already done  great things with it.. they have really nice projection systems and lightning there . I’m going to help them build a way for the kids and family members to interact with the projected art..   Its always so helpful to do these projects with Diane.. she’s got such an organized way of looking at creative things.  we’re working on ideas. .. \

That work will need to be in the queue I have.. since Fluffy is back in our lives. We’re workign to simplify and “robustify”   the clouds, lights and fire systems.   We headed down there for our first look at all of the 52 wooden , fabric and electronic clouds..  It was pretty cool to see the parts now thet theyve been uit on the desert.. .. playa dust was everywhere !

We powered up each cloud and examined it for damage, labeling problems and damaged light strips. Of the 52..3 had some  sort of damage that needed repair.. That is about 6 percent of them.. is that good ? is that bad ? Anyway…w e need to dig in to see hat happened so we can make them all more robust.

lots to do !

Monday night – ISSCC Memories

My friend Xin is out this week  at the International Solid State Circuits Conference.( ISSCC)    ISSCC is the bigist and most important circuits conference in the world.  Its really the heartbeat of the electronics industry.  .  This is the 70th year os ISSCC.. and every decade they put out an anniversary booklet. Xin sent me this picture of one of the pages. It calls out memorable Plenery talks during the history of the conference… ..It was nice seeing these pics.. also of my good friend Nick !

This picture brings back such great memories.. this  was one of my first really big keynotes.. I remember walking ou t on the stage,., there were more than 9000 people there and I could hear my heartbeat on the PA system..   It was also my 50th birthday.. and 2 weeks before I was off to do the reality show. My talk was about getting my  nerdy  colleagues to share  their love of engineering and science with the next generation..   I had such stage fright.. but it went great.. ..

After the talk, DIane and  I walked across the street to have dinner…   and there was a surprise birthday party waiting for me.. Our freinds larry and leah. carl, rob.. and my sister  mary and her husband our nephew Jake.. it was the first time o met him !!

What a great moment.. it was punctuation for a very new chapter in my life..

It really filled my heart !

Nice memories
