Friday night – Mimosas and samosas

Just wrapping up a very unusual Christmas day.… It’s a first of many ways… It’s the first one we’ve had without kids since they were born… It’s our first without dogs… It was over 60°F today And rainy.

But in many ways it was pretty normal. Diane and I woke up early and took advantage of the warm weather and headed up to catamount Trail. We went up to a small evergreen forest with waterfalls that are dogs… Particularly chai… Really loved. I took advantage of the warm weather to take a quick jump in the water. I couldn’t go too far because the rain and the snow melt it made things into A raging river

We did headed back home… And had a really nice zoom call with my mom

Several hours later the West Coast of our family started waking up… And we started together for a family day. Believe it or not we were on zoom all together on an hour from 1 PM until midnight with a variety of sitting around talking, cooking, opening presents, toasting and just hanging out. It was a really wonderful day. Not the same as being physically together but wonderful just the same

Max and Becky had made their own wonderful beef Wellington…

But they had given us a pointer to a recipe for samosas. We never made them so GabÉ made some on his side and we made them. I think we ended up eating them at 10:30 at night. They were so wonderfully good

We decided to eat them with mimosas because they rhymed

We just finished around midnight our time with a toast to each other, to Sam, grandma and grandpa Mariano,, my dad, Chai, satori…

What was funny is at the end of the day we still hadn’t made much progress on opening presents… We’re getting back together on Sunday to finish that off.

It was so nice to be able to spend the day together… Distance or no

I hope everyone else got to spend time with their loved ones and one way or the other…

Night, all, nite Sam

Thursday night (delayed) – ‘‘twas the day before ….”

Didn’t get a chance to post yesterday . Pretty simple day .. I made a journey out to mail some stuff (not gifts) but dressed the part for the holiday

The. Diane and I drove around and dropped off cookies for a few friends

The. Home to find that Jill had dropped off her famous cheese ball. That’s how I know it’s really Xmas !

The. Diane and i split a Marcos veggie sub.. which is a real treat . Only our 3rd takeout of the pandemic

The. We climbed in bed and looked for the worst Christmas movie we could find

We settled on “santa conquers the martians” .. from 1964 .. and it was bad .. really bad .. as in 2.7 out of 10 on IMDB

https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0058548/

The. A long winters nap with Diane in her kerchief and me in my cap

Nite all, nite Sam

Wednesday night – Pre-Christmas climb

First things first!… I want to do a shout out to my aunt Sis and uncle Phil You are celebrating their 69th (!) Wedding anniversary today… What an amazing milestone!… We love you guys ! (This picture is from last year at my uncles 90th birthday)

Nice day… It’s the day before the day before Christmas and all through the house… We decided we were going to do our annual climb up Camel’s hump a couple of days early because the next two days are going to be crazy weather… Not crazy as in cold and snowy but warm and rainy. If we do believe the weather it’s going to be 61° here on Christmas day. That’s about 40 or 50° warmer than it should be. We took advantage of the beautiful snow today to climb up our favorite mountain. ‘Kyle came up with us Before heading down to her parents for Christmas and New Year’s.… We got to the Mountain around 8:30 in the morning and started hiking. Before too long we ran into a really good friend Lou. The four of us liked up keeping socially distant.

It was such a beautiful and sunny day. Pretty frigid at the top… With about 0°F windchill

We brought two small sleds which were really fun on the way down

There weren’t a huge number of people out on the trail today but we did run into some friends

The coolest story is that every year for the last three years we’ve climbed camels up on Christmas day. Each of those two years before we ran into this woman named Jessica and her dog chance. We’ve had such a nice interactions with them. She calls me Santa (because I was dressed as Santa of course) and we talk about our day and our years… Well this year we didn’t expect to see her because we’re taking our hike a couple of days early. So did she. I was coming down on a sled and she said Santa… And sure enough it was her. It was so great to see her and chance !

That was a little Christmas magic!

Nite all, nite sam !
