Monday night – Wardencliff

I spent nine hours driving through the rain to do a pilgrimage today. I have a meeting at Yale tomorrow so I decided to come down a day early so I could go visit my friends at the Tesla science Museum in WardonCliff Long Island. It’s not really cold Wardencliff anymore.. I think it’s called Sherborn or something like that. What matters is that the last laboratory that Nichola Tesla had was on this site. It was a beautiful Stanley white building that was Tesla’s headquarters until the late 1920s… Maybe later… I don’t recall. Anyway I thought the building had been destroyed when it’s 75 foot tower had been taken down. Not so… It actually had fallen into other hands. It Turns out that it was most recently used by the Agfa Corporation for chemical manufacturing and had become a Superfund site. Now a brief group of people have bought the land and are making it back into a Tesla museum and science center. I’m down here because I’d like to be involved somehow. The details of that are a little too premature to discuss here… But their vision for what this place will become is amazing…

. It’s still too toxic inside To go inside without special clothing. Tonight I had to Satisfy myself by walking around the old building and the old coil base. Even that was wonderful

I had to travel to and from the museum by ferry boat… It was something that Google maps had forgotten to tell me.… It was a pleasure to be out on Long Island sound in the stormy weather

OK… I have an early meeting tomorrow… Got to go to sleep.

More tomorrow

Sunday night – all our hearts

Today had a pretty interesting mix of themes.… We started with a nice ski in Waterbury with our friends John and Lauren. We’re trying to make the best of the beautiful snow covered before the rain starts tomorrow.

After that I went and spent a nice hour and a half with my friend Scott. He’s going through chemotherapy and we’re trying to think of a cool therapeutic project to do together. I’m so impressed with his attitude… He’s a pretty spectacular guy.…

From there I went to the “all our hearts”… Event at the generator. My friends Lena and Cathy Put this event in the group behind it together as a service to families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction. If you weeks ago they Had an event where the families got together and made Clay stones to remember their love ones. Today they were handing them out. It was a really nice event. There were lots of families there who had been touched by addiction disease… And they got up and told their stories. I was in tears for quite a bit of it. It was cool that they had been able to adapt some of the same stones ideas.… I had originally thought that This event today was the combination of the all our hearts effort… I quickly came to understand this was just the beginning of it. They want to grow this so that more and more families can tell their stories. It felt like a really wonderful beginning

I zoom Dan from there to join in the pocket remembrance event. Our good friend Puckett died about four years ago. We get together every year to remember him. He was an awesome friend and an awesome musician… We had a house full of people who were thinking about him. What was really nice is if we had a house full of babies as well. Puckett would’ve loved it !

Coincidentally… Today is the compassionate friends candle lighting ceremony. Every year on the second Sunday of December they asked people all over the world to light candles at 7 PM for children who have died. We took a few minutes to do that in honor of Sam and Puckett

Then we did a post to our friend .. and got back to eating and drinking and playing with babies

My thoughts tonight go to those gone and the living !

Life is amazing and so complicated

Saturday night – snowy day

Nice quiet day. We spent the time sort of decorating the house for the holidays. The kids are coming back this year so we’re mixing it up In terms of decorations, observations etc. We’re going to see them right after the holidays in Oregon. We decorated a house plant and hung up a few lights. It’s feeling pretty festive to me.

Mid morning Diane and I got out for a nice ski. And I have to work up a sweat.

Later in the day we went to the last part of the IBM annual Christmas dinner. The number of IBM people in the state is now pretty small.… As always we got there after the food was gone but we were able to catch up with a few old friends

It’s getting pretty late… Time for bed

Friday night – Bah humbug

Busy day today. It’s been a few hours at University of Vermont helping judge the computer science and of semester project fair. It was so much fun such great energy

From there I drove over to the generator for the holiday humbug craft sale. It was full of people who had made beautiful stuff at the generator and other places. I’m so proud to see the place being used like that

I’m super sleepy… Got to go now
