Thursday night – teleyoga

I had a two-part day. I woke up feeling grouchy… Several things at work weren’t going quite as smoothly as they should. I was behind on several others… I worked so long that Diane and I missed the chance to take a hike… We took a run instead. On the run I realized that I was letting my concerns for the world situation creep in and affect my day-to-day Concerns… As in “it’s easier to worry about small things that it is to worry about big things”

Armed with that realization I launched into the afternoon in a much better mood… At 9 o’clock tonight Diane let a yoga class for all of our family. Max and Becky in Santa Fe gave in his household and us. It was really cool and fun

Pretty funny… I realize I saw this cartoon in our town paper this morning

Namaste ya’ll

Wednesday night – New normal

This was the comic Of the day from the New Yorker. Pretty funny!

These days are going by in a blur. For some reason both my day job and my outreach job (which is supposed to be windy 5%) are both hitting overdrive right now. Most of my days start at eight and ends at eight… With only a few breaks in between. I don’t know how I got to be this busy when everything is supposed to be shut down

The good thing is that some of my day job work is related to the covid stuff so I’m feeling at least a more productive

Diane and I did get out for a nice run today.… It was cool seeing the snow that was still around… though the ground is already fully into mud season

Hope everyone stays safe and sane

Tuesday night – Lock down

The governor of our state just declared a lockdown for the entire state.… From what I understand all businesses are to close… And people are to stay inside unless they have a legitimate reason to be out. Luckily getting exercise is a legitimate reason… That means we can still head into the hills.

Gov. Phil Scott ordered Vermonters Tuesday to stay “stay home” and “stay safe” to slow the outbreak of the coronavirus in Vermont.

“The Governor’s order directs Vermonters to stay at home, leaving only for essential reasons, critical to health and safety,” said a statement from the governor’s office Tuesday afternoon

“Effective March 25, 2020 at 5:00 p.m., all businesses and not-for-profit entities not expressly exempted in the order must suspend all in-person business operations,” it continues.

Scott forewarned his executive order Monday: “I would not describe it as a shelter in place, that terminology means something different to many people especially in the emergency world,” he said at a press conference.

This is so crazy

Sry Sade !

Monday night -high performance computing vs. COVID 19

Over the past several weeks I’ve been inspired to see how many bottoms up efforts have sprung up to help us all get through the Covid19 . Pandemic . My friends Jake, Steve and Kyle are working at places like Generator and Beta to make face masks for health workers at FAHC . Others are doing outreach to folks in the community.. everybody has to use the tools they have .

Our team at ibm has found a way to contribute. Yesterday and today the government () announced a collaboration

Around high Performance computing aligned in the fight I’m proud that my company was able to help bring together a consortium of all of these playersagainst COVID-19. These computers will be used to understand how covid works and get in its way

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/white-house-announces-new-partnership-unleash-u-s-supercomputing-resources-fight-covid-19/

I’m proud that our company was able to help lead the creation of this broad consortium

Industry

  • IBM
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Google Cloud
  • Microsoft
  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise

Academia

  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories

  • Argonne National Laboratory
  • Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • Los Alamos National Laboratory
  • Oak Ridge National Laboratory
  • Sandia National Laboratories

Federal Agencies

  • National Science Foundation
  • NASA

The idea is to make available some of the worlds largest and fastest computers to help understand and supress the COVID-19 virus. (This is beyond politics folks… I know what you’re thinking)

As part of this I’m working on a project involving cryo-EM microscopy… It’s too early to talk about it… But if we get some results I’ll let you know.… At least it feels good to be trying to do something !

And besides… If you read the whole press release… I got to get a bunch of people in the government to say our cute Satori’s name :-)
