I was settling in for a week at home when my plans changed out from under me. A ticket opened up for neurips, one of the worlds biggest AI conferences. It’s being held in Montreal this year..so it’s too close to miss.
I drove up and met my friends for a late dinner. It was a surprise to both them and me
I’m sleeping in an Airbnb with all the folks from the Cambridge lab. I found a spot on the way to the roof.

Hi point of today was a drop by six of my friends from the Cambridge MITIBM lap. They’re on their way to a huge AA conference in Montreal called Neurips. Our house was only 100 m out of their way. They showed up mid day and we had like he’s an ice cream. It was so much fun having them up here at our house
We even took advantage of their gigantic minds to help us move our woodstove a few inches
We sent them on their way after dark… Now the house smells like potato pancakes and AI people
It’s also the first night of Hanukkah

Worked around the house today which was fun and slow . We put up the holiday lights on the house , cleaned the front entry and finished rebuilding one of our old dressers. We went to the Richmond holiday market and saw all our town friends
We got in a slushy walk with the girls.. then it was time to head to the ibm holiday party.
It was great seeing so many old friends and catching up
The entertainment tonight was a guy that did real time interactive painting. I have never seen anything like it.
He told his life story.. and punctuated it with real time painting. What was cool was that he did most of the painting upside down!
It was a really fun evening… Now I’m too tired to keep my eyes open.
