Thursday night – VoMIT

Despite a full days work. I had three fun events in my day. The first was a lunch meeting of VoMIT (Vermont’s Own M.I. T club ) board of directors. We hadn’t met in some time. It was so nice meeting my fellow geeky alums..   I’ve been lots of places in the world.. and belonged to many organizations.. but somehow no groups is so charmingly weird as a group of MIT alum

Nice treat 2 was a chance to meet with Diane. Deb and Brit for a quick bowl of Pho at Pho Dang (Pho Sho !).. I had spicy tofu smothered in every bottle of hot sauce i could find.. yum !

Nice thing number 3 was my annual show for the Governors Institute for Game Design.. Here are the directors my good friends Ann and Ray.. Ray is off getting his masters in animation. Ann is about to go on sabbatical !

It was a great crowd toning.. sparks were flying.. hair was sticking out.. it was great. When I’m doing these shows s when I know I’m doing what nature intended me to do on this earth.

OK.. long drive tomorrow.. gotta sleep..

Wednesday night – The Ben Ten

Oy… the house is full of ice cream.. really, really good ice cream !. Both Hannah and Ian are now working at Ben and Jerry’s.. as are Kevin and Nate.. between all of them our freezers are literally overflowing with ice cream. The company gives each employee three pints every day to take home.. I think at this point we have more than 30 pints of the stuff stuffed in every freezable place in the house.. Flavors I’ve never imagined possible.. things with bits of pretzels, chocolate covered potato chips.. flavors named after comedians, politicians, musicians, animals, even after other deserts

And.. what’s harder still is this stuff is irresistible. I don’t even like sweets that miuch and I can’t resist a spoon or so of this stuff every time I walk by a freezer .. and we have three freezers !

They say everyone who works at B&J’s gets the ‘Ben Ten’ when they start.. the extra ten pounds from eating their own wares… (all respects to friend Ben who’s looking pretty svelte these days (you reading this ? )  But I gotta say it’s probably worth it.  The kids absolutely love working there . It’s good to see that the culture that Ben and Jerry established there lives on even though the place is now owned by a large corporation.. They say it’s like summer camp !. Everyone enjoys the people, the work.. and of course the perks..

Like chocolate coverd macademia ice cream … strowberry cheeskace, americone dream, pistachio, chubby hubby, cherry garcia… all that I can see from where I now sit..

I won’t do it.. no I won’t go over there.. I won’t I won’t … I wo……..

Tuesday night – i know I don’t know

School’s been out for a week tomorrow and I think I’ve only seen Gabe about 6 times.. Summer is here and the living is easy.. with a new drivers license.. I remember that wonderful freedom of being able to drive off and find friends.. It’s funny.. I don’t think I ever was very good at keeping track of where my kids were at any point in time. thank goodness Diane was very good at that.. The thing that’s different now is that I know I don’t know where they are.. Actually our kids have all been good at staying in touch.. and letting us know where they are… it’s just different when they’re out in the world on their own.   It’s one of those fundamental letting go things.. you have no choice.. it’s part of the natural order of things.. but it’s also hard..

but I wouldn’t have it any other way

Monday night – near miss !

As we all went about our business today the earth barely missed an encounter with Asteroid 2011 MD. The little otherwise unknowable chunk of rock came withing 7500 miles of hitting the earth. I’ve read that it’s diameter as somewhere between 5 (yawn) and 20.. (yikes) meters.    7500 miles ?  That’s just  the distance between Burlington and Bombay !!!!!!!! I was both relieved.. and I admit a little disappointed to learn that even a 20 meter chunk of rock would be reduced to just some big chunks of very dangerous junk by our atmosphere.. Nothing big enough to kill off the dinosaurs.. if they were still with us. Not even big enough to create a crater big enough to call for a national park..

Still the prospect of a collision and the collective sigh of relief that we all would have breathed had we known this was coming was quite spectacular.

I love tat the fact nothing happened was newsworthy

I can take much more of that.. ..
