We had in house today as well. I little previous turned 200,000 miles. It had that car since 2004. We bought it as a salvage car after a flood and except for the few things Related to my unauthorized modifications, it's never had a problem (knock on wood). Cars are a little like family members to me and this one good one it's taken all five of us and dogs all over the place. And I'm grateful to it. It turned 200,000 miles about a milefrom our house I stopped and had a little party for it. I even kissed it's bumper.

Thank you for being my car, little black prius !

More on the birthday boy tomorrow.

Friday night – Confusiasm

Just back from a 9 hour round trip to Bennington to see what truned out to be Gab’es last Lacrosse game of the year. They were in the quarter finals.. but they came out 2nd in todays match. (ie. they lost).. It was a tough end of the season.. a 3 hour drive through pouring rain, a cold wet game which they did not win  and a 3 hour drive back.. I’m not sure why I say this.. but it was actually fun..   Maybe it was hearing 3 grown and very smelly  boys in the back seat singing horrible parodies of adele, taylor swift and dolly parton.. between dub step and rap numbers..

On the way down I had plenty of time to think.   I was trying to find a word to describe one of my new found interests around linked data and sensors. They are two concepts I know pretty well, but haven’t really thought about them together. I found the combo both confusing and exciting.  I came up with a word ‘Confusiasm’…

Wouldn’t you know, someone has already logged confusiasm in the Urban Dictionary.  It describes confusiasm as

To be very excited and enthused about something that you do not fully understand. A mixture of confusion and enthusiasm.
Joe showed incredible levels of confusiasm when he expressed how excited he was about going out.. but didnt know where he was going.
Tom – “I cant wait to see that film!! its gonna be the best!”
Chip – “why?”
Tom – “I dont… know…”
Chip – “thats some confusiasm you are showing there…”

Sometimes I think there’s nothing new in the world.

Thursday night – sam cohn awards

This morning before work diane, gabe and i gave out the sixth annual Sam Cohn awards at the Mount Mansfield honors ceremony. Each year we give out 2 awards: the sam cohn bolton mountain award and the sam cohn musical soul award. we let the school pick the two kids.

The first award covers a season pass, rentals anda helmet to ride or ski all season at Bolton.. We give this award because sam just loved that mountain, he was up there every day he could be..

The second award, is the musical soul award.. We give it because sam was a natural musician.. Like both his brothers. Sam was a great classical musician and played electric bass and guitar for a head banging metal band .black night vengence. The winner of this award gets to pick a guitar or bass , electric or acoustic of their choice from advanced music. The only stipulation is that the instrument never be used to play elton john or billy joel. (. Because sam thought they sucked.. )

When thr time came, gabe introduced us and told the kids who sam was.. At this point, none of them would have known sam….. A strange thought for me…

Then i introduced the awards and diane announced the winners… I was fast and smooth.. Fun and sad all at the same time.

Two great kids won the awards this year… They were. Happy to get the awards and we we happy to give them.

I walked out of that school marveling that i had done this 6 times already..and it still feels surreal….

..and i suppose it always will
