Thursday night – halfway back

Greetings from a very cheap hotel in Rutland. I'm on my way back from the quick trip down to Connecticut and New York for work. I've got something… Perhaps the flu… And I'm shivering with fever. Nothing like a cheap hotel room and the flu to cheer you up. Honestly though, I feel pretty good considering I feel so bad 🙂

Lots of meetings today, The most interesting one was an (attempted) simulcast to several thousand high school students we put together I'm computer modeling the brain. We had about 150 students from Ptech, high school in Brooklyn up in the room with us. The material was interesting, And the kids in the room were great. I had a great time cohosting with my good friend he igeoma . We were kind of winging it to work around the technical glitches… But that was fun and it's own way.

however every technical thing that could've gone wrong did go wrong. It actually was funny. My hardware demos all broke at the last minute. Everyone else's videos and presentations got screwed up.and many many people who tried to dial-in couldn't make it in for some reason. This despite a ton of pre-testing done by my friend Ellen who did a magnificent job at prep. Murphy's Law was in the house to be sure.

If you were one of those who tried to dial and couldn't, I'd like to hear from you so that we get some idea of how bad it was. My apologies and apologies from my team for the technical difficulties. We tried!

Again, the technical contact the folks presented was really, really interesting. First we had James talking about brain modeling, then Eric and team talked about Watson . finaly dave, a guy from the synapse team in almaden talked about the new neural chips

The kids had some great questions though. which made it feel worthwhile

One very cool surprise… One of the teachers came up to me after the talk and introduced himself to me and that I recognized. He been one of the production assistants on the Colony and now teaches history at the high school. What a small world!

Okay fevers back… Climbing into bed

more tomorrow
