sunday night – Phish@SPAC

Hello from Albany.. I’m in a cheap hotel just off the interstate … and believe it or not.. I’m FREEZING Given though it was 90 degrees today. I just stopped here after attending a Phish concert at SPAC in Saratoga. It poured the first third of the concert so we were drenched.. but not so drenched as to not enjoy the fine music and great folks around..

My friend John made the trip down with me.. which really helped the drive.    We got there around 4.. so we all got to hang out a bit… here’s the venue before the people showed up

then into my freinds Chris and Kim … here are Kim and soem of her friends from Vermont.. IMG_1586

They started letting folks into the venue around 7.. just as it really started raining. IMG_1587

It was coming down hard for about an hour.. but no one seemed to care.. even though we were all soaked to the bone.. IMG_1592

The show was great.. I wandered around .. in the field and down near the stage just soakign up the music and the vibre (and the water) IMG_1597 IMG_1600

A few hours in Cathy handed me a nectarine.. a welcome and unexpected energy boost and taste treat 1IMG_1604

i really loved looing at all the rave toys.. from LED ballons, to  poi to the simple glowsticks which make all Phish shows amazing..

IMG_1610 IMG_1620 IMG_1624 IMG_1629

I watched the last half of the last set right up near the stage.. I find I can really loose myself (anf maybe my hearing) in really loud music.. it worked.. all my angst for my coming work weak was erased in all those decibels..

ok.. I need to go .. first a quick hot bath .. then sleep..

Before I do, I want to ask folks to keep our friend Janet’s family in their thoughts and hearts

Saturday night – Grandma Janet

Our dear friend and neighbor of 32 years Janet Quinn. passed away peacefully this morning at 8AM surrounded by her family. Janet was better known to us and all our neighbors as Grandma Quinn..
.Se was sweet, generous, and very funny.. She knew everything that was going on in town and told great stories. All three of our boys spent many happy hours in her house playing with her and the other kids who hung out there..  Her door was always open ..

here’s a picture I saw today in her house that must have been taken in the past couple of months. She’s playing with her new great grand baby Samson..  who’s Mom Sam used to babysit all of our kids.

she really loved her friends and family..  Yesterday Diane and I went to the Hospital to say goodbye and the room was full of her kids and others from the neighborhood. We all really loved her. She passed peacefully this morning as soon as her husband Patt came in to the room. she and Pat had been married for almost 60 years.. and had lived in the house next to ours for 54 of them,

The family came back to the house in late morning .. we wen over to see them..

it was good seeign Pat.. her looked good.. shakena and sad, but good. I think he’ll be fine..

IMG_1508

there was a steady stream of family and friends coming in to laugh and cry and tell stories about Janet.. and there are many stories.. I told a story about when Janet taught school in our house. I’d heard from 2 different people that  she’d sometimes lock roudy students in the bathroom… a story which she denied.. .. but others swear too… funny !

Janet had planet a small Christmas tree in their yard a few years back. Her daughter Barb and her sisters decorated it this morning.

IMG_1510

we hung out for a bit there… then I went inside to look at pictures.. I found soem other good ones.. many of Janet and her many grand kids.

Friday night – Sams shorts

Very peaceful day today. Not much to report. That's kind of nice.
One thing of note, I went running today in a pair shorts found in Diane's closet. And told me that they were Sam's shorts… Or at least probably Sam's shorts. I think it helped me run better.

It's nice to find things like that around.

More tomorrow…

Thursday night – and the heavens poured fourth

it was very strange wking today realizing that there would be no parade,no party in the park and no fireworks.  All that had been called on account of expected bad weather.. a tough call to make I’m sure.. but ultimately the right one.. Even though it was hot and sunny all morning, we kept hearing about roads that had been washed away in the area.. by mid afternoon it was raining again and several more roads washed out including the Huntington road, we white hill. Sherman hollow . Nashville road and at one point browns trace.. it was insane !

We were determined to have a good time anyway.. and we did.. around 2Pm folks started showing up .. by about 5 we had at least 60 folks around.. maybe more.. folks brought food they’d probably intended for their own picnics.. so we had plenty..

Things didn’t wind down until about 9.. as we were cleaning up. Pat reminded me that the picture you see of Sam as you enter our house or our barn was actually taken on the forth of july.Sam and his friends were walking on dugway up

near triple buckets. he was wearing that crazy Mexican hat we’d bought down near merida.. he was so happy that day.. i totally remember it..
