Thursday night – out-of-the-box

Today's been a tough day. Tomorrow is my dad's memorial and it's all I can think about. His obituary came out today in the Boston Globe. Very short and to the point.. It was very weird seeing it on the screen. More proof that he's really gone.

I tried to get some work done today but not with my heart in it. I did have some really good conversations with good friends today which really helped.

One really nice thing that happened was when I came home this morning and should be a box that had somehow come to the house in the night. It Was a plain cardboard box inside was a beautiful wooden contraption. With leather corners, brass fittings, switches, and lights. Here's what it look like.

When You flip the switches, the lights turned on like this.

Close up it says

It was a fun message and challenge from my good friend Colin and his dad. Perfect timing. I can't tell you guys how much I appreciate this especially now. Especially when I learned that Collin finished it last night and dropped it at our house at 4 AM. That's an amazing friend!

Okay got asleep leaving early.
Night all, night sam

  1. John: heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Dad. Not a day goes by I ask myself “what would Helmut do?” He will stay with you on some level. Love, C.
