Several hundred folks showed up tonight to remember elijah, share stories, eat and listen tto great music..  eat, and have fun. . It was a great turn out

!

The mood was upbeat and positive.. people werehugging and talking.. and enjoying themselves.. it felt very good.  Elijah’s family were there and they were doign well I saw smiles and tears.. just as it’s bound to be. We really care for that family. It was good to see them so surrounded with love.   The weather was threatening rain.. but it held off for the party.. a As we drove away the sun came out and we saw the most amazing rainbow !  A gift from Elijah !

After the party, Diane and I went downtown and met up with our friend Ellen. We walked down to the waterfront to hear one of my favorite bands.. Umphrey’s McGee.. We got there at the end of the first set.. so we didn’t even bother buying tickets. The sounds was great out on the boardwalk.. so we watched the sunset, and the peopl and listened to the great music.

Really sleepy now.. better call it a night..

Wednesday night – face made for radio

I had a meeting today after work at generator. Patti Daniels from Vermont public radio was there to do a walk around and a quick interview in prep for Vermont edition tomorrow at noon and 7 on VPR.

She interviewed Collin, Matt, Ken and me about the generator. She wanted to know all about mission, the membership and the tools we had dinner. It was great talking to her… I think she might be a maker herself one of these days.

Collin even managed to get the Vermont edition theme song (only the water by Grace Potter) working through his tesla coil. It was fun trying to capture the sounds of the place for radio. I haven't ever appreciated how hard it is to tell stories that way.

I'm looking forward to hearing the interview with Jenn Karson and Doug Webster that Patty is doing for Vermont addition tomorrow at noon at 7 PM. If you can please listen then and call if you have something to offer. Should be good.

Tuesday night – retro experiments

Nice, lazy evening with Diana and gave it home. Well gabe grilled veggies on the grill I went in and did an experiment I hadn't done in years. I picked up some calcium hypochlorite pool shock at the pool store the other day. And I also bought some brake fluid which is mostly ethylene glycol. I mixed the two and 30 seconds later there was a 3 foot, orange fire. Just like when I was a kid. Sorry I didn't take any pictures. Heres another kids version of the same thing i found on google. ( please be safe with this one.. The fumes are dangerous as is the fire )

After dinner, Gabe found a cool Twitter post about an experiment that I also done as a kid. It involves tying a cotton string around the glass bottle, soaking it in alcohol, and lighting it on fire. After it burns out, you quickly dunk it in cold watr. If you're lucky…… As we were…. the bottle will break cleanly near where the string was. All you need to do then is sand the edges and you've got a pretty cool drinking glass. Heres how it went

Then a quick dunk in the water and 'clink'

Nothing like a little father/son bonding over chemistry nostalgia

Monday night – Crickets

I’m sitting here in a quiet house listening to the most wonderful sound.: crickets.. lots of them.. Out singing for mates.. or singing for the heat.. or just singing for the heck of it. The quiet pulsing chirp of these things slowly works its way into our brains as summer starts to wind down.. all nights get full of this sound.. i love falling asleep to it.. It reminds me of cooler days coming.. cold wet dew in the morning and sweatshirts at night.. even as it’s still hot during the day.

it reminds me a gain how much i love were, whne and how  we live here..

The Cricket sang,

by Emily Dickinson

The cricket sang,
And set the sun,
And workmen finished, one by one,
Their seam the day upon.

The low grass loaded with the dew,
The twilight stood as strangers do
With hat in hand, polite and new,
To stay as if, or go.

A vastness, as a neighbor, came,–
A wisdom without face or name,
A peace, as hemispheres at home,–
And so the night became.
