Tuesday night – out of sorts

Actually.. i’m not ut of sorts at all. I’m feeling pretty blissed out as we close out the year. I chose the title of this blog because my buddy Jarrod sent me a link to a cool video about sorting algorithms.  Efficiency of sorting algorithms is the kind of thing that kept me awake at night for the first 30 years of my career . Here the folks have assigned sound to those algorithms.. as they sort a set of random length segments.. i  The length of the active element corresponds to a tone.. listen and learn ! it’s clever and pretty..

Monday night – SFO

In the airport lounge at SFO after a quick work trip. Managed to sneak in some social time as well. I had a great visit with my friend Paul and his great family out in Stinson beach.  It was so great seeign Paul in his natural setting. I managed to completely miss pictures of Paul and the kids.. but here’s Paul’s husband Daniel and  his mom Rosemary.

I was happy to get the kids riled up this morning by showing them completely dangerous science stunts.. .  Their beach house is a 3 minute walk from beach.. which gave me a nice place to run this morning.

The white-knuckle drive back to SF which was so scary last night was really beautiful. I had to take the ‘panoramic highway ‘ (panaramic.. yes.. highway.. not so much) . here’s a view of Stinson beach

From there I headed to San Jose for my work meeting.. which I really enjoyed..   when that ended.. I had an hour to kill so I went to the Tech Museum.. one of the country’s oldest hands on science museums.. It was great walking around looking for inspiration.

Here’s em in their long wave UV camera..

ok.. about to settle in for a redeye back east.. the last trip of the year..

more on the year over the next few days

Sunday night- Bob

We got news today that our friend Bob P passed away yesterday . In 2006 Bob received a transplant of One of Sams kidneys .

Bob reached out to us when he saw me talking about samstones in anepisode of the colony. He used that to track us do and connect. we got to know Bob and his family in 2010 when bob married Pam http://johncohn.org/base/2010/07/24/friday-night-bob-and-pam/ It meant so much to me to get to know bob and his family.

It was a very hard thing to hear about Bobs death.. ..at the same time it gave me peace to know that sams kidney helped bob have 8 more good years of life.

Our thoughts goout to bob and his family

Nite all, nite sam…and thanks
