Friday night – Boxing day

Happy Boxing day.. whatever that means THe day after Christmas is called boxing day.. .. I first learned of it when we lived in England.

I had a good and productive day hanging out with family and working around the house.   I borrowed Tim’s chain saw and took care of some of the ice storm damage . We lost part of 5 trees.. . I chainsawed and Diane hauled..

I also did some computer related maintenance around the house as we swerve towards being a mostly mac family..

Max and I have been working on a cool project of his.. based on arduino nano.. and we’re having the most mysterious problem.. the kind that is erratic and hard to reproduce…

it’s now 1 am and we’ve been staring at it for hours..

I’m goign to go sleep on it and see if I see the code problem in my dreams.

Thursday night – peace

We had a really nice day.. We had a nice family Christmas.. and hung out together all day. we never really got out of our jammies. .. the day was peaceful and slow.. we ate when we felt like it.. played, watched an old christmas movie (rudolph) .. and just goofed off. Couldn’t have been better.

As always, sam was in our thoughts. we all wrote notes to him and burned them in the fire this morning.. it made the day feel more complete.

late tonight we all actually ventured out of the house to decorate a tree in the woods as is our custom. we hope the birds and animals appreciate the food we decorated with… it was good being outside !.. it was in the mid 40’s felt like spring out there.

I hope your day was as nice as ours..and that you felt peace as we did..

Wednesday night – twas the night before

Very peaceful night before Christmas… we managed to only leave the house very few times throughout the day. Diane ventured out for an early morning shopping trip.. we took a walk witht he dogs.. then all of us went out to lunch att eh new ParkSide in Richmond.. Lots of nice, quite together time

Wednesday night - twas the night before

the only serious business of the day was decorating our tree.. we do both sets of holidays.. and the christmas tree is definitely the main event. As is our tradition.. it’s simply decorated.. we used a ton of RedBull cans that Sam had collected. a few years back we cut some of them into strips and made garlands out of them.. raor sharp garlands at that.. .. then we hung a bnch of the cans on the tree.. and top[ped it with a redbull angel’.as gross as it sounds,  i like knowing that some of the dried backwash in these cans  is from sam.

Diane and gabe did some great cooking through the day.. first sourdough bread

then hot buttered rum to stave off the warm damp outside (it was 43 degrees and rainy.. more like april !)

then a delicious seven fish stew for dinner with a sambuca toast to Sam

i even found a bay leaf in mine. good luck !

we ended the day by wathcing the 1966 cartoon version of ‘the grinch who stole christmas’ ..great fun for 4 adult.. then we watched the  very trippy ‘horton hears a who’.. man.. is that weird.. i recommend it

now.. time to don my kerchief and settle in for a long winter’s nap

merry chistmas to all.. and to all a good night

Tuesday night – Can I interest you in Chanukah ?

Lovely albeit drizzly day.. i braved the weather and the crowds to try and  soak up some holiday cheer and it worked. I walked around downtown for awhile in the rain and poked into some stores, saw some friends and listened to Christmas music wafting from everywhere..   It was good. .

I got back just in time for us to head up to Jen and Tim’s for a nice get together.. all the kids are back in tow so it was fun to all be together. At the start of the meal, I lit the Chanukah lights and said the blessings for.. the last night..

It was fun to have a little of the ‘other’ holiday mixed in. Chanukah was never a big deal in my family.. but the tradition and the food bring back good memories.

It reminds me of this great Jon Stewart/ Steven Cobert vid from several years back..
