Tuesday night – town meeting

Today was town meeting day in vermont. One of my favorite days on the calendar.. it’s the day that reminds me how much I love my town , my state and my country. On the first tuesday of march, every town in vermont (all 251 of them i think) hold town meetings. Thats when the men and women of the towns water in a grubby gym or church and check each other out for signs of cabin fever or other bad signs of long winter.. Seriously, it’s when we all come together to practice democracy in its rawest form.. and I absolutely love it.

on the way in I ran into my favorite Candidate.. Lincoln Bressor who’s following in his family’s footsteps in running for select board..

I dutifully gave my name to the registrar to go vote.. nobody really has to give there name since everyone knows each other.. but we do it anyway.. it’s the law

the the vote.. only one contested election today .. ,and some business.  the school budget , the school unification bill, a tax stabilization plan and a conservation measure..

the place was filled.. but not so filled when I first started coming to this meeting 30 years ago.. we were all younger then.. not so many young folks now.. we need to fix that. i think

There was some good conversation.. here’s Denise talking about the the biz  climate in the the town.

There are always knitters..and seekers playing Madam Defarge.. Heres friend Eliza making who knows what !

these are some sort of niuse maker I think

I do have to admit I was multi taskign a bit. I had tow work calls I needed to take, but they didn’t reduce my enjoyment of being in there with all my freinds

here’s Taylor yates ont eh sleectoboard dedicating the meeting to our volunteer fire department

I had to leave before the only (likely) contentious debate.. but my democracy batteries had been recharged enough for another year..

I love you richmond and richmondites.. thanks for coming today

nite all, nite sam

  1. I had a chuckle over the “checking each other out for cabin fever” comment.
