Brrrr… its cold.. about -14F right now.. and going quite a bit lower tonight. Glad to be inside with the fire roaring.
We had a three cake day today !.. not often that happens. Cake #1 was a Chewbaca cake Diane and I made for Finn’s 6th birthday. He’s a big Chewy fan… I found a mask that made great cookie sounds when you opened the mouth.. Diane made a cookie shaped (gluten free) cake.. and covered it with chocolate hare.. Add a few LED light marshmallows for eyes.. and BINGO !
this evening we took Gabe and Raya out to Single Pebble for my birthday.. It was SO good.. .. we took the chefs choice menu which included Cake 32.. a little slice of cheesecake (i could only eat a bite) .. and oranges !
then we dropped Gabe and Rya off at Rayas.. and she’d made me cake #3.. Apple Cake.. my favorite !!!!
Sweet day.. good prep for valentines day tomorrow
will you all be mine ? (what the heck does that mean, anyway ? )
Nice gathering here tonight. Many of us are missing pocket. It’s been more than two months since his memorial service. We all decided it would be good to get together again.. so diane made a huge pot of pasta and homemade vodka sauce (yum).. and we got together to eat.
pretty exciting day. This morning every MIT grad got a letter from Prof Rafael Reif, the president of MIT. It said:
“At about 10:30 this morning in Washington, D.C., MIT, Caltech and the National Science Foundation (NSF) will make a historic announcement in physics: the first direct detection of gravitational waves, a disturbance of space-time that Albert Einstein predicted a century ago.”
It turns out that last Sept 14th t at 9:51 UTC here was a 1/5th of a second ‘chirp’ when a powerful ripple in space time traveled through the earth… and you and me… The ripple was an echo of the moments just before two black holes collided 1.3 billion years ago.. If my math is correct that was about 7.6369658976E21 miles away. The chirp was detected by measuring the signal difference between two giant laser interferometers in the LIGO gravitation wave detector in Hanaford Wa and Livingston , LA. The event confirms a prediction that Einstein made in 1915
I am in another insanely busy work period.. with lots of prep for an upcoming conference. Diane has been helping me which I really appreciate. I was able to steal 3 hours of time for civic duty this evening which proved to be the best part of my day.
First I went to Echo to look at some new color tests for Lakebright .. Alex, Rachel , Joe and team are working get the software interfaces to the piece ready for use. It’s looking really good !
then off to generator for a meeting about this summer’s Festival of Fools that my freind Woody is organizing. Generator was packed tonight which was great to see.. Dean gave us a special demo of her sound projects.
then finally over to Ted’s house for a reception for Matt Dunne, my friend who’s running for Governor.. He’s a great guy.. until last week he worked at Google and was responsible for helping us get the generous grant to build Lakebright.
