Saturday night – Bob Dylan !!!

I just realized that I hadint said anything here abotu Bob Dylan getting the Nobel Prize !. What an amazing thing .. i had to think about it for a second when I first heeard.. but weh you take the guys influence on music from the 60’s till today.. it makes sense. His music has had such an influence on me.. .. “Blowing in the Wind” , “Dont thnk twice” ,” all along the watchtower” , “tamborine man”.., “shelter from the storm”

and my all time favorite.. “Tangled  up in Blues”

I most love the lines:

All the people we used to know
They’re an illusion to me now
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenters’ wives
Don’t know how it all got started
I don’t know what they’re doin’ with their lives
But me, I’m still on the road
Headin’ for another joint
We always did feel the same
We just saw it from a different point
Of view
Tangled up in blue

Not sure why that resonates with me so deeply.. guess because I’ ve met alot of poeple.. inlcuding more than my share of mathematicians  and carpenters..    .. ..  Dunno..

but I’m sure glad Dylan is getting this recognition.

All I can say Bob is…

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
And may you stay forever young

(from forever young)

Nite all, nite sam

  1. I have only one Bob Dylan story from my years at IBM.

I worked with this guy whose family was from the Hudson Valley. He was a guy who was very talented, but was never known to give a compliment to anyone, any time. He came into my office with the architectural outline I had written for the software for a new IBM chip tester. “What’s this pile of crap, young man? You expect me to work on this??” (He did, for 2 1/2 years)

He told about his father and mother down on the Hudson. His father was retired and had a woodworking shop of sorts on the side of their old house. His mother was a seamstress and became known for excellent children’s clothes.

One customer came in several times. The husband stayed in the car. The old man finally walked out and said, “Hey young man, come on here in the shop where we’re burning some wood”. “No, No, It’s alright”, was the reply.

Eventually he got the young man to come in and sit by the stove. “So, what do you do, anyway?” “Well, I kinda write stuff”.. “Well, I hope you can make a livin’ at that”..

Another visit: “Well, young man, my wife tells me you write songs.” “Yeah, I do.” “Well she says you wrote that song ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’, that right? ” “Uh, yes”..

“Now, I don’t like all that music crap on the radio all the time. Can’t listen to that garbage. But that song ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ … that’s a pretty good song.”

    “Thanks, Mr. Ostrander”.
