Tuesday night – pre 1927

My friend Matt surprised me a few days back with a really nice picture of our town.. jonesville… soemtime before the flood of 1927

You can see what a thriving town ir was back then.. our house is clearly visible in the picture.. about midway up and about 1.4 the way from the left edge.     You can see the covered bridge over the winooski river.. and the bobbin factory on duxbury road. The Bridge, the factory and at least half of the buildings in the picture were washed away or damaged on November 3-4 of 1927  when the Winooski came out of its banks. The story is that the bridge you see here  was washed out and carried down the river.. and took out the bridge street bridge in Richmond 3 miles down river.  ..

The barn across the street from us wa washed into the street and our house had about 3 feet of water. We can still see the line of silt when everwe have to open a wall on the back corner of the house..

It hasn’t happened again in part thans to the winnoski damn in bolton and the little river damn…  Damn glad !

Its cool to see the buildigns that still remian.. the motorcycle shop.., the formaer bombardier farm.. but not the barn.. the post office..

i love our town..

Nite all ,nite sam
