Monday night – karma

Tonight I had a funny coda to a story from yesterday.

Yesterday afternoon my flight from Burlington to New York was delayed for several hours because of an equipment problem down in Newark. By the time we landed in New York another plane was at our gate and we had to wait. By the time We got to the gate , the air bridge with stuck and we had to wait another 15 minutes

. By that time my flight to Munich was supposed to be taking off. I am enough of a veteran at these things that I decided to run for it anyway. I sprinted across the entire airport and got to the Munich gate just as it was marked ‘closed’. Arghhhhh !

I gave my best puppy dog look and told the attendant that I had run like crazy to get to it. This was high-stakes because the next flight to Munich was actually two days later due to all the weather delays.

The attendant at the gate was really nice. It turns out that the flight departure was delayed because of another mechanical issue. So she walked down to talk to the folks on the plane. It turns out thatThere was a place for me… But unfortunately they already given away my comfy extra special seat. She came back and told me that they would have to negotiate with the person who they gave my seat to and give them some sort of compensation for getting kicked out. I was like “No way!”… That person had earned the seat. I was just happy to get on the plane. I told him to let the person have the seat because I was going to sleep anyway.…

Fade to today. I finished my last meeting around 8 PM and I got a text from my friend Joe. He’s a good friend of mine who used to work at Ibm. He saw for my blog that I was in Munich and he was staying nearby.I suggested we get together for a beer along with my friends al and Tammy. He came over and over dinner was telling us about how lucky he was last night on a plane to get an unexpected upgrade. We did a little computation and realized he’s the guy to get my seat.

Isn’t that great karma?

Night all, night Sam
