Saturday night – stories

Spent  another day mostly inside.. Temperatures hovered just above zero. Managed to get out with the dogs for a run on the flood wall. I swear it was like running on mars. I think it was 6 degrees above zero, but gale force winds.. I dont think I’ve ever been so cold.. but I, we needed to get outside.

The cold  was perfect for sitting around and telling stories of Marcia. We had relatives dropping by including Joe, Pat, Steve, Denise, Marcia’s sister Fran   her husband tom, their son Tom Jr…

we had a great time going through old photos. I love looking at these glimpses of Marcia’s lie.. .. here is Marcia with her sisters.. myust have been the early 1940’s

Thursday night – Marcia

My wonderful mother in law Marcia Lou Mariano died unexpectedly this morning in her home in Endicott, NY. She’d been ill with heart disease for several months. We knew that her time was coming, but no one expected it to be so soon. Diane and I were down here last week helping her get set up for home care. She wanted to stay in her home.. and she wanted to be free of pain.. and she got both wishes..

I met Marcia  and my father in law Gabe in 1982 when Diane and I first  started to date . From the g of moment I met them , I really loved Marcia and Gabe. they were always so warm and welcoming.

Gabe died in 2014… and Marcia has lived alone since in the hose Diane grew up in.   Thats where we are right now.

Marcia was kind, generous and fun. She was always making something. She painted, knitted, did ceramics. her house is still full of all her crafts.. its strange  sitting here looking at all of that

We drove down here today as soon as we heard.  Before we left I took pictures of the pictures of marcia we had in our house.

Hannah and Deb generously lent us their 4wd car to drive as the snow was coming down.. and piled us hight with snacks for the trip .other of our  friends reached out to . which we so appreciate .

It was snowing like crazy so it took 8 hours to drive. by the time we got here we were pretty spent . My brother and sister  in law Joe and Pat were here  as were our friends Linda and David who’d made us dinner. It was great to see them

we looked through pictures that Marcia had around.. many i’d never seen

TOmorrow we’ll stsart figureing out what happens next with the service wetc. I’ll keep folks posted.

for now. thanks to everyone for their love and support..

We’re really going to miss Marcia.. We loved her so much

Wednesday night – Extremes

Day 3 of 2018 and already its an interesting year.   We just had a nice dinner with John B (aka Gizzo)  , Lauren and Martina.. Gizzo wants to build a bicycle with wings that shoots fire.. I’d liek to work on that !. We played with fire a bit to get ideas.. great conversatiosn abotu religion, vermont, school ,etc.

Very busy today with work.. but still managed to get out for an hour at lunch to ski.. we splurged on cross-country skis with metal edges…  they feel really nice.. as did the 27 degree weather !..

it’s amazing but true that in the last 36 hours we’ve had a temperature swing of -17F to + 27F ..  a swing of 44 degrees .

I don’t know many places on the earth where that can happen.. to put that in perspective.. imagine waking up one morning with it being 46 degrees..

and having it be 90 degrees by noon…

oh wait.. thats burning man every year..
