Wednesday evening – prep day

Dianne and I slept in the van at Maks and Becky’s last night… Since there are no bugs here were able to keep the vans doors open and fall asleep with a wonderful view of the western lights guys. We sleep so well outside.

The weather here is pretty amazing… Highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 40s

We woke up around six got some coffee and then took our grand dog Violet for a walk

The High Point of the day was going to visit Max where he and Becky worked at meow Wolf… It was the most amazing fabrication shop I have ever seen. Sadly, pictures are not allowed but believe me this place is like Disneyland. Max showed me the 2500 W laser he gets to use … amazing. The people at meow Wolf are great too !

The rest of the day we spent shopping for provisions… The sunburn festival we’re going to is only three days long… But it feels like we’re shopping for three weeks

In about 45 minutes I’m gonna go pick up gabe at the airport… Then we leave for the festival tomorrow…

More from there tomorrow… If we have connectivity… Which I don’t believe we will

If there’s no cell signal there… I’ll be back in touch on Monday

Tuesday night – power steering

Last night we got to camp in layman lake and our power steering cut out . We called in to get a service or tow … and they said they’d be there at 9:30this morning .

We woke about 5:30 this morning and took a great hike out to a small 700 year old Pueblo ruin

At 9:40 the roadside service folks called to say they could find a tow truck until late this afternoon. The fine folks at boho who rented us the camper stepped in and found someone to fixed the van. We had to drive to 10 miles to get there .. but our steering came back on the drive . The repair guy flushed and filled the steering fluid and we were all set to go.

First stop was el motto .. an amazing sandstone bluff . With a small water oasis , a ton of old graffiti (some from the 1600’s !). And a wonderful 700 year old Pueblo

Then we stopped at an amazing volcano caldera and a perpetual ice cave

Now at max and Becky’s..

Ready for sleep

Monday night – multiple terrain

In the past 36 hours we been through so many different types of landscapes and terrain’s. From Phoenix is concrete jungle to Sedona’s crazy hippie sand stone to Cove Springs OK in Locust Groveled … And then Flagstaff Pine Forest.… Your dry and cool lava beds of Sunset mountain,In the windswept hill of Paul Observatory… And then the desert plains Of the meteor crater… Till where we are now which is Lake Layman… a leafy oasis in the middle of a desert.

I took too many pictures today… I think I’m going to put them all here without comment and then curate them later (I hope)

Here’s early morning breakfast at Cave springs campground

Then a quick hike around sunset mountain and it’s lava flows

We then went back into Flagstaff and checked out the Paul observatory… The place where the then planet Pluto was discovered

Here’s their 24 inch refractor… This is one of the places where the Expanding universe theory was first considered

Lowell observatory was a great place to See peoples passion for communicating about science. They did a great job telling the story about the discovery of Pluto

From there we had a great Mexican lunch… And then went to discover space ourselves at meteor crater…

And then another blast of the past where we went to that petrified Forest. Great chunks of petrified wood and fossils

And finally our campground at Lyman lake . We got here just about sunset

Beautiful day

Sunday night – Cave Springs

Greetings from Cave Springs Arizona. Diane and I are out here camping for about 10 days in Arizona and New Mexico. We’re gonna meet up with the boys on Tuesday and Wednesday and then go to a festival. As soon as we got out here we went to pick up our rental camper van. We are renting “stevie” from a really nice company called Boho.

Stevie has a full-size bed, a sink, solar lights, a gas stove, and a solar powered fan… Thank goodness because it was 109° in Phoenix. Where we are now is in the low 60s and really nice.

We drove up to Sedona which is a very touristy town in a very beautiful place. We hiked up to the airport mesa Vortex. It’s supposed to have some sort of energy about it… I don’t know if I felt any energy but it had an amazing views

Our camp site is beautiful .. quiet , cool and near a stream . We cooked some veggie ‘beyond meat’ burgers that were amazing

The. We lit a campfire and hung out

Now we’re curled up in Stevie for our first night of van camping

Super fun and cozy
