Hello from Armonk, Ibm’s corporate headquarters. I’m down in the learning Center which is now called the Lewis v Gerstner learning center. The name has changed… As have some of the people who work here, but it still my favorite hotel in the world. I don’t know exactly why… It’s a bit like a monastery. A short walk over to corporate headquarters… A big communal cafeteria… And small Monk like cells For sleeping. Perhaps I was in some sort of monastic order in a past life and that’s why it appeals to me.
It’s pretty empty tonight… And it reminds me of a time back in 2012 just before Christmas when I truly was the only person in one of the buildings. I was so sure of it I started knocking on doors… Not another soul. I Remember I called gabe and he suggested I make a ghost movie… Which is just what I did. I threw a sheet over my head (and nothing else)… And ran through the halls screaming… I caught most of it on my camera, but only this picture survives. It used to be behind the check-in counter… I don’t think it’s there anymore
Peaceful and uneventful day here at home. It was cold and rainy so mostly an indoor day. Chai seems to be feeling fine Today which is great. I spent much of the day playing with and scratching both dogs
As soon as the rain stopped for a moment we got out for the first of our two hikes. I know that it’s the first day This year I can’t see snow anywhere. It must be spring
Later in the day I headed over to my friends Homer and Marie’s to see their slideshow from Easter Island. Homer is an amazing artist and his initials are actually HG Wells
He does these amazing scratched metal paint needs it just come to life with light
For the last eight years Homer and his friend John have been working on this five axis mill. They’ve actually got it working pretty well. It’s amazing to watch. A little scary
Woke up realizing i’d fallen asleep without blogging.. doesn’t happen often. SO here’s for yesterday..
Drove home a day early from Cambridge because our older Dog Chai (15.5 yrs) wasn’t feeling well (she seems fine now !).. so I had a long evening drive.. Work is tough right now, so I was trying to think of anything else. For some reason my Colony friends popped into my mind.. It was 10 years ago that we were on our adventure in the Warehouse. ..this morning I looked back at my blogs and realized that last night was the exact 10th anniversary of our getting out of the colony.. it must have been sitting there in my memory like an alarm clock !
It was so fun catching up with everyone.. and reminiscing about our crazy shared experience. I wasn’t surprised to hear that everyone still found the experience transformational even 10 years out..
I love my colonists.. and love that we still have this bond.. There’s nothing like 59 days of bad food together to create a lasting bond !
Spent the day down in Armonk with my fellow Ibm Fallows… Always good to see them. Lots to take in
Trying to get to bed early because I have to drive very early in the morning
Just had a nice dinner with my friends Alessandro and Jim had a great Chinese place in the strip mall in White Plains. As usually happens we were brought fortune cookies… I was in a quandary about what to do. This keto diet gets me to avoid all suites and starches… That means no fortune cookie… On the other hand I can’t walk away from a loaded fortune cookie. I would miss it too much… And my OCD would not let me sleep because I would be wondering what was on that cookie fortune
It’s a little more awkward because the fortune doesn’t count if you don’t break up with your teeth… So I opted to open the package break the cookie with my teeth grab out the fortune But not eat the cookie… That took some resolve
