Saturday night – water scorpion

Hung around the house today… It’s hard to figure out what to do on a “holiday” weekend… When we’ve been homebound so long. I use the time to get the pool ready because it’s going to be in the 90s this coming week. As part of that I discovered two huge water scorpions in the pool water. I have no idea how they got it. I know they were water scorpions because I looked them up on an app. Evidently they are pretty amazing. They can fly, they can sting… And they were a good 4 inches long

About 1 o’clock Diane and I decided to go for a paddle. We hadn’t been in the canoe in over a year. We went down to the boat in Dam which is about 7 miles up river from us.

We ran into our good friends the Perren’s there… It was so great to see them… Honestly it’s so great to see anybody at this point.

It took us about two hours to paddle the 7 miles back home. We took a small stop on “Comair” island… It’s where me and the boys sometimes camp.… I put a Sam stone there

We got back to the house… And got on our bikes and went down to get the car. It was a good workout going both ways. Later that night we stopped by and ate with Deb… We socially distanced and everything… But it was almost like normal.… The dinner with Deb is never normal… She such a good cook.

OK… Heading to bed.

Friday night – heating up

I love this time of the year… Wake up it’s still cold enough to wear a coat and hat… But by mid afternoon it’s hot and dry… I think it actually went over 80° today… Actually it looks like it was 84. Here’s what our weather station has said about the last couple of days…

We are just about to make dinner when a woman showed up in our driveway… It was Kim. We had met her almost exactly a year ago just a few weeks after her son Clark had died. We saw them at the top of Bolton where we climb to celebrate sam’s birthday… Which is next Thursday.

I found a link to the day where we met. http://johncohn.org/base/2019/05/25/saturday-night-sam-and-spring/

It was really nice reconnecting with Kim and hearing how they were all doing. It’s been a year of healing for them… Which was good to hear

Thursday night- graduations

Pretty hard day today. Many friends affected by layoffs at my company… I understand why they have to happen. … But that doesn’t make it any easier

As I was having conversations with friends that have been impacted I heard a crazy said noises outside. It was a huge parade… A graduation parade for Richmond Elementary School. I was like the whole town has decorated their cars and we’re driving by the house. I was working in the tower so I started ringing the bell.

My day ended around 930 as I had a talk I gave it to a bunch of Vermont math students. Just as I was heading to bed Diane showed me this wonderful commencement speech that former President Obama did for all high school students.… Man what a guy. We need somebody like this to run our country again

Almost a long weekend now… Looking forward to it.

Wednesday night – Summer office

It’s above freezing most mornings now… So I’ve made the transition to my “summer office”…

I work in the tower of our house which is so beautiful.

I can see mountains and rivers from up there and even friends in our yard

And I have the giant wasps to keep me company

Life is good
