Tuesday night – Forty years at IBM !

So… Today marks my 40th anniversary of starting at IBM. I can vividly  remember my first day walking into the building on August 3, 1981… I remember they let me shoot  a fire extinguisher add a chair as part of our safety training… That’s probably one of the most important things I learned at Ibm…

Honestly it’s been a really  great ride. challenging, entertaining.. Sometimes bewildering….. never boring.. and  (almost)  always fun. I think I’m at 80 countries and counting…for work related travel,  Thousands of friends… And four  decades  very cool technology.

I woke up feeling very very grateful for having found this job, in such a wonderful place… and  such wonderful people…

I even met the love of my life Diane courtesy of Ibm.

thanks to all the folks who wrote to mark my 40th ..   I think you can see some of what they said and a whole lot of pictures   here

Wow.. 40 years.. ..I swear  it only feels like 39 !

Monday night – James and Hazel

Had a super busy day today… Meetings all day and then a final stop over at Scott and Dasha’s to finish cleaning out the basement. I am so happy to report that all of Scott’s valuable scientific equipment has found a new home with someone who will appreciate it… I know that would make Scott very very happy

I got home just in time to meet with Newt to give him back the PA system from Scott’s celebration and to meet with a good friend Phil and his kids James and Hazel who came over to work on James his radio control boat… It was so fun having them here… They’re both great kids. Well James and I worked on the boat ‘Kyle and Hazel had a tea party

Finish the day by gluing up a whole bunch of fireworks that are going to go on our Covid burn for fire and water later this week… I love gluing explosives to things

Sunday night – Scott’s basement

Another pretty sleepy day which was nice. I got up exercise went for a run came back add mediately headed over to Scott’s house to help coordinate more of the clean out of his basement. Today we had Phil, Dave and Jim they’re going through some of the remaining equipment. We did a really good job of getting the valuable stuff into the right peoples hands I’ve got one more session of it tomorrow… I think Scott would really be happy all this exotic stuff is finding a good home. Most of the staff will be used for fun… Which I know scott would approve of 🙂

I hung out at Scott’s as long as I needed to to make sure that we had handled most of the detailed stuff… That meant I missed quite a bit of the MIT club (VoMIT) picnic… I drove out there and wouldn’t you know it started raining right before I got there. There’s been about 20 people but about seven of my friends hang out… They’ve already even cleaned up but they were just waiting around to say hi. It was so nice hanging out with them

. Normally we take a big picture where we spell out Mit with our bodies…Since when we had a few people we did

it just a letter at a time

I love those goofballs… Only Mit !!!

When I got home it was still raining but it didn’t stop me from getting ‘Diane a tour of all of her beautiful vegetables and flowers… It was really fun to do… I was soaking wet afterwards and ended up having to put on long pants and a sweatshirt… A big contrast from the 94° weather that diane is getting out with GabÉ

OK… I need to get some sleep. More tomorrow
