Hey everybody… Here’s some big news… Here’s the letter I sent out to a bunch of my Ibm in former Ibm colleagues last night/
Dear friends…
With gratitude and excitement, I wanted to let you know that I will be retiring on September 30, 2021, after 40 years of hard work and serious play.
Because I really can’t stay away, I will be returning part-time as a Fellow Emeritus, working on technical outreach for IBM. In addition to working at IBM, my intent is to spend more time making science and technology fun and relevant to students and the public. This has always been my passion and now I will get to do it more!
To say that my career has been fulfilling is a wonderful understatement. Working in IBM, I have had the opportunity to participate in some of the most exciting technological innovations ever: the incredible growth of the semiconductor industry, the advent of the Internet of Things and the growth of AI. It has been such a rich and amazing ride!
Personally, while at IBM I have had the pleasure to work with so many talented and fun IBM employees, partners, and clients all over the world. I’m grateful to say that I now consider many of these colleagues’ close friends.
I understand the concept of the IBM family. Between me, my wife Diane and my late father-in-law Gabe, my family has been with IBM for 84 years and the company has always been with us, through some of the best and through some of the hardest of times and for that, I am truly grateful.
Thank you for being part of this family with me. I appreciate and value our time together. Though my title will change, my email will not, and I will still be around. Let’s keep in touch!
To riff on the words of the Grateful Dead… ‘what a long strange (and wonderful) trip it’s been’.
In deep blue gratitude,
John Cohn
