Sunday night – Big changes!

Hey everybody… Here’s some big news… Here’s the letter I sent out to a bunch of my Ibm in former Ibm colleagues last night/

Dear friends…

With gratitude and excitement, I wanted to let you know that I will be retiring on September 30, 2021, after 40 years of hard work and serious play.

Because I really can’t stay away, I will be returning part-time as a Fellow Emeritus, working on technical outreach for IBM. In addition to working at IBM, my intent is to spend more time making science and technology fun and relevant to students and the public. This has always been my passion and now I will get to do it more!

To say that my career has been fulfilling is a wonderful understatement. Working in IBM, I have had the opportunity to participate in some of the most exciting technological innovations ever: the incredible growth of the semiconductor industry, the advent of the Internet of Things and the growth of AI. It has been such a rich and amazing ride!

Personally, while at IBM I have had the pleasure to work with so many talented and fun IBM employees, partners, and clients all over the world. I’m grateful to say that I now consider many of these colleagues’ close friends.

I understand the concept of the IBM family. Between me, my wife Diane and my late father-in-law Gabe, my family has been with IBM for 84 years and the company has always been with us, through some of the best and through some of the hardest of times and for that, I am truly grateful.

Thank you for being part of this family with me. I appreciate and value our time together. Though my title will change, my email will not, and I will still be around. Let’s keep in touch!

To riff on the words of the Grateful Dead… ‘what a long strange (and wonderful) trip it’s been’.

In deep blue gratitude,

John Cohn

I’m really doing it!… I couldn’t be more excited.

Saturday night (delayed) cedar point

Diane and I took advantage of a beautiful weekend to drive out to Cedar point park in Clayton New York to see our friends Lynda and David. They have one of those huge campers… This is the second time we’ve actually visited in there… It’s really pretty nice… It’s like a house on wheels. It was a gorgeous drive and super relaxing being there with our friends.

We ate well… We walked around… This morning we took a really nice hike down by the St. Lawrence Lawrence

It was so great seeing our friends!

Friday night – work based learning

Busy day for a Friday… The High Point was going to generator and meeting up with eight students from Spaulding high school to talk to them about engineering career paths.… I worked with my new friend Mike on lessons about Arduino embedded computing.

This is what I really enjoy doing.

Late tonight we went over to Tim and ‘Jen’s and hang around their fire… Lots going on… It was nice just to have those quiet moments

Thursday night (delayed) – Home teleport

a funny thing happened today… We had a helicopter landing and taking off In her backyard all day. It was for the railroad that was doing some track inspection. That asked our neighbor Bob they could takeoff from there. It was so funny to hear and see a helicopter coming right over the house minding our backyard… The wind wash from that was so strong that it actually broke some of our pot plants… Too bad… But overall worth it to see such a cool thing.

You never know what’s coming
