Wednesday night – disorganized religion

or  Leshana tova tika’teivu vete’chatemu    which roughly translates.. Happy new year, may you be enscribed in the book of life.

Today starts Rosh Hashona ראש השנה The head of the year.. Tonight is Ereve Rosh Hashana.. literally New years eve.. and what am i doing ? I’m hanging out wiht my family at home, helping my son with his homework.

and that  where I want to be .. These last few years I’ve really struggled to find my self in organized religion. As much as I like the music, the food, the neurosis of my cultural upbringing, i can’t get my head around the organized practice of any religion.including my own. I think it’s largely due to the spiritual awakening I’ve had since Sam’s passin.   It’s funny, because I’ve never felt more spiritually alive or alert.

Just because I’m not goign to synagog doesn’t mean I can’t pull still tap into soem of the stuff that does have meaning to me. The next ten days are  the most important part of the year. Between now and Yom Kippur Jews everywhere will introspect and figure out what adjustments needed to be made in the machinery of their lives. I’m in a good place for doign that right now.. I feel pretty solid and focused.. and there are a big pile of improvements and tweeks I could use to make in the coming year.

It’s also a time for apologizing to folks I may have wronged in the previous year. I’ll be thinking aout that as welll

Right now I’m htinking of slicing up an apple and dipping it in honey and hoping for a sweet yer for us all

L’shana tova everyone !

Tuesday night – funky water

Ahhhh. Its back in the low 60's out and the crickets are back. Its definitely heading towards fall again after a short detour back to summer. We took advantage of the warm and lazy day yesterday to float down the winooski a couple of miles on inner tubes.. The warm slow water had a pleasant funky smell .. The rapids were so shallow that you had to practically levitate to prevent from leaving skin on the rocks…

Even though i was only a quarter mile from my house i couldn't have been much more cut off from people.. It was just me and fish and the ducks… And the funky water ……hard to believe that In 3 months you'll be able to walk across that river bit in yesterday's heat i was happy to be stewing in it

Hmmmm, must have been a peaceful day if all i can think of to write about is funny smelling water from yesterday.

Nothing wrong with that i suppose..

Today I want to wish a very happy birthday to my Mom and my baby Brother. Mom is a an wonderfully active, energetic, fun loving and adventurous 80 year old today and Billy is  an inspiring, amazingly inventive and wonderfully talented.. uh… 12 year old , I think , Or thats how old he was when I last remember asking him..

They are two of the brightest, wittiest and loving people I know on this planet and I’m glad to be sharing  genes with both of them.

Happy birthday you guys ! I love you both very much !!!

Sunday night – chris and amanda’s wedding

We had a day full of family and friends. This morning we had a really nice brunch at my cousin in law Billy and Debra’s house. Our mutual cousins John and Jean were in town from Wisconsin to drop their son Evan off fer his first semester at Middlebury. We hadn’t seen John and Jean them in years.. It was really nice catching up .. I’t always nice seeing Billy and Debra. Billy and I are about to start on a new project at UVM which I’m looking forward to. More on that in coming weeks
