Diana and I took an adventure this morning… We drove up to Grand Isle and took the ferry over to Plattsburgh. We were taking advantage of a very low cost calcium scan that is offered over there $150 versus $2500 if done here in the state. It’s a general scan to see how much calcium is in the plaque and your heart arteries… It took zero time… What’s more is the office at this really weird taxidermy display in it creepy but fun.
Later in the day, we decided we would take defensive action on an invasive species that’s on our running trail… It’s called hogweed … And it is a very evil plant. It grows up very fast and it sap is an incredible irritate… If it gets on your skin, the moment that sun touches it you develop a rash that’s worse than poison ivy worse if it gets in your eyes, it can be blinding. Diana and I bought two advanced weeders and went to town. It looked like it was going to be fruitless… We both filled up two garbage bags of the stuff and hauled it back to the house… I think we made a dent in it, but will have to see.
We’re going to keep coming back until we’ve at least beaten this past back
Rabbit, rabbit rabbit… Happy 1 May and happy May day… I feel like seeing the Internationale !
Diane celebrated the gorgeous day with an early morning fast hike up band for Ridge… The trillium were out and beautiful. I learned that trillium are also called “wake Robbins”… Which solves the mystery of why wake Robin is called wake Robin. 🙂
After work, I had a meeting up in Montpelier this late afternoon. The organization. FIRSTinVT I’m part of got a renewal of an incredibly generous grant from the Argosy foundation to help further spread first robotics challenge across Vermont. I’m happy to say that we are going to be having a team starting in Montpelier. It will be a combination of Montpelier high school’ and U38 High school and we’ll meet on the campus of the brand new Greenway University, which is going to the old Vermont college buildings in Montpelier. Greenway is starting up a maker based undergraduate program very much like old in college. The head of Greenway is my friend Mark Somerville, who is a founding member of Owen. It’s going to be all projects with a sustainability mindset. It looks possible that. the first robotics teams are going to be able to meet there and build the robots there and have Greenway students as informal mentors. I’m super excited. At one part of the meeting, I realize that one of the first coaches Ruben is actually my friend Russ’s son!
A small world Vermont thing.
Afterwards Diane and I met in Waterbury is a surprise to join gizmo’s birthday party… So we had a wonderful dinner with gizmo and Lauren and then went back to their house for cake. It was great to be there for gizmo’s birthday. He’s such an amazing person…
Happy birthday GIzzo.. we’re glad you were born ! nite all, nite sam _me
I was Open Saint Helens today for a work experiment.… My friend Kyle showed me his “new” 1980’s truck. He drove it all the way up here from somewhere down south… And he made it!
Tonight was yoga night and soup night… My favorite weeknight. Always wonderful seeing these people.
