Thursday night – vibes day 2

Howdy from the Vibes day 2.. It’s hotter than Hades here.. and goign to be hotter tomorrow. There’s actually a high heat advisory for this location.. it’ll be 97 tomorrow and 70 percent humid.. they say it will feel like it will be 110

All said though.. it wasn’t too bad today.. I spent the day trying not to move.. pretty successfully I might add. I woke up around 8 to bright sunshine.. despite the heat I had to cover up for the light and bugs.. here I am

here’s max.. he managed to sleep till 9:30

I went for a longish run before it got too hot.. I eneded up getting out to a lighthouse at the point nearby.

First order of business was to get the wind generator up.. Gary and paul lead the installation,. it was like our own iwo jima

All day long we did simple slolar demos.. we had a solar founain. a solar cell phone charging station.. we even made our burritos in a solar oven.. lots of folks dropped by to check it out..  We’re even on the agenda !

midday, Max and I braved te ehat and checked out the vendors.. nice stuff..

the only airconditioned plance is funded by the tobaccoc association.. it’s only for smokers.. It’s in the low 60’s in there .. and full of green plants. how funny is that ?

the best thing about festivals like this is the people watching.. I talked to so many folks today.. i love hearing theur stories.

there are also a bunch of non profits (like us) here.. Just down the street is Seva (http://seva.org) a wonderful org started by ram dass and wavy gravy. They give gifts of  gifts of health and training in the emerging world. . Several of the past christmas’s our ‘gift’ to sam was a donation to Seva.. Once we made a donation to support midwife training, another time it was for eye clinics..   Please check out seva

Right next store is Donate Life. an org we know and love.. that promotes organ donation.. I told them both about Sam and gave both t a samstone..

down the street from them is Ben and Sarah’s biobus.. doing life sceince demos.. tall day.. tehy had soem microscopes set up looking at creaures they pulled from the sound.. it was so cool !

Max and I helped ben tilt his solar panels on the bobus.. it was a great place to watch the coming sunset..

OK.. music’s starting.. ogtta shut down now.. More later  it’d goign to be a long and wilde night

Wednesday night – At the vibes

I worked all morning.. then at 12 o’clock sharp I switched to vacation mode. I traveled down with friend Gary to the Gathering of the Vibes in Bridgeport CT.  Max and I are volunteering on Gery’s ‘Solar Bus’. A 1960’s diesel bus that runs on french fry oil . The purpose of the bus is to promote solar energy. It has a roof full of photovoltaic panels and about 220AH of deep cycle golf cart batteries. Vibe goers can use our solar and wind generator to charge their cell phones while we tell them about the beauty of the sun’s energy.

Diane helped us get ready.. she made us a ton of yummy food. .She’s takes such wonderful care of us.. Thanks you Diane.. I love you so much !

Gary showed up just after 12.. We all packed the bus.. Here’s gary, his kids oren and skyler, paul, terryleigh and dan.. Diane and neighbor Judy were there.. but not going with us.

Diane saw us off.. as we all got comfy in the bus.

then we were off !

Gary drove the whole way.. we didn’t stop once in 5 hours..I tried to get some work done .. but it was way too noisey for me to join my calls. I resigned myself to really being on vacation.. I feel guilty.. but glad to get some down time. .

we stopped by the train station in bridgeport to pick up max.. here’s paul leaning out of the bus.

We snagged max then headed to the bayside park

first a lonnnnng check in line

Then we got ouvendor badges.. A look at my wrists shows that I am having fun this summer !

We helped gary park the bus.. note, were about 15 feet from long island sound.

just down the sewall is the BioBus.. another bus based outreach program. I look forward to speaking with Ben the scientist on that bus..

we did a little walking around.. it’s queite tonight.. the public can’t get in until tomorrow.. and tomorrow it’s going to be HOT.. over 100 degrees !..

I appreciate all the freaky people here

Max made a great meal out of his fresh made Naan bread and dieanes yummy rice and beans.. (thanks love !)

And.. after a little technical issue.. I got the peace light wired to the fornt of he buss.. It’s a definet homage to the many VW eacewagons that have followed the band in the past

OK.. gotta sleep.. it will be busy tomorrow. nite everyone..

If you’re here at the Vibes, please come and find us.

Tuesday afternoon – Further

Greetings from the road.. from Rutland Actually. I’m typing while my friend Andy drives. We’re heading down to the Further concert in Saratoga this evening. I really appreciate Andy driving as it’s allowing me to work on the way down.. I’m between conference calls right now.. and wanted to get a post in.. because it will be hard to do after the conference.

This week is going to be pretty interesting.. I’ve got the Further show tonight.. then tomorrow afternoon I start 2.5 days of vacation as I go to the Gathering of the Vibes

in Bridgeport CT. I’m so psyched to be working that much live music into my life..there’s something about loud live music that i find transcendent.. It’s like meditating.. only it makes your ears ring the next day..

I’ll try to post some pictures from the show late tonight.. In case I don’t.. have a nice night.. more tomorrow

Monday evening – T/IQ

OMG.. it’s hot..sticky, stinking hot..  ,my car thermometer said 91 when I came out of work. It’s cooler here out in the sticks.. but still too hot to move. I have said in the blog in years past that I think my IQ drops for every degree past 65 F. that would put me way in negative territory  about now..when the mercury.. or now.. more likely thermocouple creeps up into the 70’s I get in touch with my inner iguana.. I flatten myself on a rock .. limit my movement and drop into low gear thoguht -wise//.

I take off all the clothes that modesty will allow.. I go barefoot at work.  I start browsing sites for real estate north of the arctic circle.. .

You might ask.. How can a boy who was raised in the sauna that is Houston TX wilt in a 75 degree day ? I wish I could say.. all i know is that my blood has thickened to a sludgy, salty soup this afternoon .. I’m grumpy, i’m sticky… and thinking longingly  about shoveling snow…

keep cool
