Tuesday night – comical

Funny thing happened today.. not once, note twice, but three times, comics came to me to male a point about work.. they were funny. ironic and write to the point.. Here’s one.. that summed up part of my day..

One of the other cartoons was too obscure to share.. and the other too obscene.. but that’s not the point.. As int the first, all three were blasphemous, of course.. but they poked fun at sacred cows.. a wonderful thing to do when you want folks to start thinking critically again

i love it when the universe comes down and shakes you to tell you to stop taking yourself so seriously..

ok.. gotta sleep..
nite all, nite sam

ps.. the 2nd cartoon was about ‘rule 34’.. know what that is ?

Monday night – farsighted

Argghhhhh.. Once againĀ  I’ve lost my glasses. It’s the third pair I’ve lost.. And these aren’t cheap… I lost the first pair under a ple of debris on The Colony.. The second pair while on a run with gabe in Argentina and this last pair on a trail during a practice hike for our oncoming vacation. .. At least I l one them in fun ways..

I took off after work and went to the place that our optometrist recommended.. It took me an hour to try to find something suitably unfashionable.. I told them I was looking for ‘nerdy professor’.. Seems that’s not a popular style this year

Aside from the agony of picking style, the process was fun and high tech.. They actually use a camera to measure your eye spacing.. How cool is that ?

On my way home from that adventure I heard two interesting pieces on the radio… The first was an interview with Chris Anderson, the creator and lead curator for the TED talks. He wrote a blog post the other day another how email is taking over our lives… He told a familiar story about people’s lives being overtaken by their inbox.. I know that happens for me.. Is spend several hours a day battling mine. He said soemthing that stuck with me.. That an email inbox was like a todo list for you that anyone can add to. Very very true. Anderson suggests the10 rules that he developed to combat the email scourge based on crowd sourced input .. Check them out here http://www.emailcharter.org/ I’d ask you what you thought of them..but that breaks one of his simple rules (no open ended questions šŸ™‚

The othe news particle that hit me and saddened me ws learning that Jonah Lehrer, the author of the book on creativity called ‘Imagine.’ just resigned form the ny times after he admitted making p quotes about bob Dylan in his book…. What saddened me is that the book is full of good insights… And the author is a talented guy. these simple lies have caused this guys career to evaporate and his work to be discounted. Very sad…interesting to imagine what posses him to make stuff p..and interesting to hear how folks react…

Ok.. Time for bed.. O actually.. Time for latest guilty pleasure of an episode of ‘breaking bad’ … I love th e show.. A nerdy professor type gets to mess with chemicals… What’s not to low about that..

Sunday afternoon – i seem to be a page

Those reading this post probably know that I ran into a snag with Facebook on Thursday. I it 5000 Facebook friends .. and that’s the limit a private person can have on their profile. They’ve suggested that iĀ  move my profile to a ‘Page’ like a company has.. As I mentioned a couple of days ago you have to tell them what kind of entity you are (animal, vegetable, mineral).. but none match my image of myself. One good suggestion came from my friend Dave.. he suggested I go for ‘teacher’ .. I used that because that’s what I one day aspire to be.

I spent the afternoon trying to make this conversion work.. it seems your profile pic is the only thing that is preserved in the conversion. You have to re-upload all your pictures and videos.. All comments and stuff go away (though I have them backed up).. and all your old friends get turned into ‘likes’ .. I’m really worried that I’m going to get lost in the process and folks won’t be able to find me anymore.. but still this is better than ‘unfriending’Ā  people, I think. I started to go through to see if I could remove some folks from the list.. and couldn’t bring myself to do it.Ā  My connections are so important to me..

We’ll see how this goes.. it may take me a few days to get my blog postings back on facebook,. etc. In the mean time, please let me know if you’re seeing the new Facebook page.. it’s here http://www.facebook.com/johncohnvt in case you cant find it.

wish me luck

Saturday night – climb

Had a good outside day.. which is what I needed. I’m very tied up in my work right now and needed soem time not to think about it.. I didn’t stop thinking about it, but at least I was outside in the fresh air while I did it..

The day began with a shortstop (lol) at Rob and Lisa’s to watch gabe play in a wiffle ball tournament.. I don’t know if the kid has ever picked up a baseball.. but he played well. It was great to see the setup that Rob had put together.. there were teams there from all over.. i think the the event lasted a day.. we left after the first game because we were on a mission.. .. we had to do soem scoping for our upcoming camping trip.

on the way to thour hike, we stopped by to say hi to chris and kim.. chris showed us hi s latest, a baby sub.. awwwww isn’t it cute ?

Chris also showed us a irdpath that Gab made out of a rock the other day.. very cool

We went home, changed shoes then drove to stowe. Next week we’re goign to hike from Stowe all the way home, we needed to check out how to get to the long trail from the top of the gondola.. we hiked up.. (loosing my glasses ion the way).. the top of the gondola was packed with summer tourists. kind of funny to see after our quet and stepp hike up the mountain.

hen a short but (to me) very scary) scramble around the cliffs we made it to the long trail this time Thursday we’ll be up there somewhere.. again.

We got back hoem around 6 after a careful walf down the mountain looking for my glassses.. no joy there.. but.. it was a greathie overall..

we came hoe and diane cooked pizza on the grillĀ  .. the pizza was great, but the cooking stone dodnt survive the ordeal.

Sam had been on our mind all day.. seeing all the kids playing wiffleball, many of them friends of Sam.. had brought him very very close.. I was appy to see a magazine for him in the mail his evening.. things like that make me somehow happy.

ok.. dian and I are both beat.. off to bed now.. more tomorrow..
