Monday night – on the roof

Greetings from Brooklyn… It's hotter than hell here so I am Trying to sleep on the very top of the roof of the boat to try to catch a breeze I'm just trying to use a sheet hopefully bugs and rain will stay away.

I don't have anyway to post pictures or anything but imagine this:

I'm lying under the radar antennas on this hundred and 50 foot boat right behind the Searchlight. I'm half naked sitting in one of the worlds largest cities and I swear I cannot see another human being. I see buildings in the distance but most of what I'm looking at is the back of warehouses and Just polluted canal. The sky is a milky gray green… Unnatural but kind of beautiful there are about four stars in the sky. There's a breeze that smells somewhere between pizza, garbage, gardens, jasmine, diesel fuel… And believe it or not it smells wonderful

i think I'm hearing garbage trucks backing up but they're moving forward and backwards beeping is kind of like a lullaby.

Also, I'm right under the flight path from JFK Airport in the planes going over some like waves crashing at the beach very big waves and a very nearby beach… But soothing nonetheless

My toes are hanging off the edge in between them I can see the buildings of Manhattan.

What a beautiful spot to sleep

.

Night all, night Sam

sunday night – Phish@SPAC

Hello from Albany.. I’m in a cheap hotel just off the interstate … and believe it or not.. I’m FREEZING Given though it was 90 degrees today. I just stopped here after attending a Phish concert at SPAC in Saratoga. It poured the first third of the concert so we were drenched.. but not so drenched as to not enjoy the fine music and great folks around..

My friend John made the trip down with me.. which really helped the drive.    We got there around 4.. so we all got to hang out a bit… here’s the venue before the people showed up

They started letting folks into the venue around 7.. just as it really started raining. IMG_1587

It was coming down hard for about an hour.. but no one seemed to care.. even though we were all soaked to the bone.. IMG_1592

The show was great.. I wandered around .. in the field and down near the stage just soakign up the music and the vibre (and the water) IMG_1597 IMG_1600

A few hours in Cathy handed me a nectarine.. a welcome and unexpected energy boost and taste treat 1IMG_1604

i really loved looing at all the rave toys.. from LED ballons, to  poi to the simple glowsticks which make all Phish shows amazing..

IMG_1610 IMG_1620 IMG_1624 IMG_1629

I watched the last half of the last set right up near the stage.. I find I can really loose myself (anf maybe my hearing) in really loud music.. it worked.. all my angst for my coming work weak was erased in all those decibels..

ok.. I need to go .. first a quick hot bath .. then sleep..

Before I do, I want to ask folks to keep our friend Janet’s family in their thoughts and hearts

Saturday night – Grandma Janet

Our dear friend and neighbor of 32 years Janet Quinn. passed away peacefully this morning at 8AM surrounded by her family. Janet was better known to us and all our neighbors as Grandma Quinn..
.Se was sweet, generous, and very funny.. She knew everything that was going on in town and told great stories. All three of our boys spent many happy hours in her house playing with her and the other kids who hung out there..  Her door was always open ..

here’s a picture I saw today in her house that must have been taken in the past couple of months. She’s playing with her new great grand baby Samson..  who’s Mom Sam used to babysit all of our kids.

she really loved her friends and family..  Yesterday Diane and I went to the Hospital to say goodbye and the room was full of her kids and others from the neighborhood. We all really loved her. She passed peacefully this morning as soon as her husband Patt came in to the room. she and Pat had been married for almost 60 years.. and had lived in the house next to ours for 54 of them,

The family came back to the house in late morning .. we wen over to see them..

it was good seeign Pat.. her looked good.. shakena and sad, but good. I think he’ll be fine..

there was a steady stream of family and friends coming in to laugh and cry and tell stories about Janet.. and there are many stories.. I told a story about when Janet taught school in our house. I’d heard from 2 different people that  she’d sometimes lock roudy students in the bathroom… a story which she denied.. .. but others swear too… funny !

Janet had planet a small Christmas tree in their yard a few years back. Her daughter Barb and her sisters decorated it this morning.

Friday night – Sams shorts

Very peaceful day today. Not much to report. That's kind of nice.
One thing of note, I went running today in a pair shorts found in Diane's closet. And told me that they were Sam's shorts… Or at least probably Sam's shorts. I think it helped me run better.

It's nice to find things like that around.

More tomorrow…

Nite all, nite sam
