Wednesday night – VO-MIT

Super busy day,, on the phone all day.. Good stuff, but my brain hurts from thinking. I ended up with a string of calls midday but it was too pretty to be inside. I ended up camping in the middle of the maple tree place outdoor shopping mall in Williston . Funny thing was… For the three hours i was there i only had two people even walk within fifty feet of me.. I wonder what folks thought.. Was i a madman talking to myself in the middle of a shopping plaza ? A middle age hippy burnout catching some sun ? A pitifully tiny cog in some giant multinationals plan for world domination ? All three ? Dunno…

I did have time to break for lunch and meet up with my colleagues from VOMIT , (Vermont's Own MIT ) club.. My co-alums were all chowing down at Naru, a local Korean place.. We talked about the coming months activities and swapped nerd jokes,,, great group of friends

Tuesday night – moon cake

Went in to work at my office today after several weeks of working at home and travel. It was both nice and strange to be there with other folks. As it happens o had 3 face to face things scheduled for today.. A real change from most days when i don't have to (or get to) interact with real live warm blooded people. Even though none of my coworkers are local anymore, i sometimes forget just how important it is for me to have people around.

The hilight of my day was actually a fire drill when the building spilled their human contents into the parking lot. I saw more old friends in that 10 minutes than I've seen i the last two months.

I had a lunch meeting with my friend CJ. We hadnt seen each other in quite some time.. I was very good catching up.

He reminded me that Thursday is the Chinese Moon Festival… And he gave me 2 moon cakes ! The traditional food of the festival.. I just love moon cakes

Happy almost moon festivaleveryone

Monday night – frost warning

The frost is on the pumpkin… And everything else. It's about 38° and going to go way below freezing tonight. It's the first hard frost warning, and I just came back from putting every flowering plant I could find in the garage. It's a Sisyphusian endeavors..as one of the next few days it's going to not make sense to try to bring in the plants. It's one those transitions that you fight but eventually have to surrender to. A good metaphor for life…

Not much to report on the day… I was expecting a peaceful day of work… Until the wash machine decided to start dumping its contents through the floor down the walls and all over everything. I managed to sop up most of it up without missing a phone call at work. I'm sure folks were wondering about the sound effects in the background .

I did manage to get out of the house this evening… I went and helped Ben on the stampmobile and it's not so routine maintenance. Hell hath no fury like a large mechanical contraption. We managed to nurse it back to health again. Remarkably it's still working after nine months.

Ok.. Trying to catch up on breaking bad… My only television addiction. Such wholesome fun.

Sunday night – diligence

Diane and Gabe were both gone today… Which gave me a whole day to Myself. I always look forward to this kind of alone time… But then find myself missing my family as soon as they are gone. I did make really good use of the time today . I made myself a list of a bunch of chores around the house. And one by one I clicked them off. Pool, check, Laundry – check, clean house – check. It was actually fun doing more or less mindless work. My mind was clear and Empty The entire day.

One thing I worked on was my upcoming TedX talk that I am going to give in the Netherlands in a couple of weeks. It will be called do try this at home and it Will be made experiments that you can do it home. To that end, I am somewhat desperately looking for the coolest science demos that you can do using material from a grocery store, drugstore, or hardware store. Any ideas ?

Surprisingly, that was not the nerdiest thing I did all day. I went and worked with my friend John to try to finish up a long overdue project. We made great progress. Then I went to the annual potluck dinner of the lab-B maker space. I just love these guys. They been had it for longer than any other maker organization in the area. And while many of us sit and talk, these guys do . Today they actually were wearing their custom lab coats monogrammed with their names. How cool is that?

It's going to be interesting to see where all of this maker stuff leads us. With new maker spaces and maker groups and maker events it makes me wonder how long we can keep growing. Right now it's amazing.

Time for bed
