Sunday night – pane in the glass

Today we really observed the change of season by performing the ritual Of putting up the storm windows. Those of you with new houses probably dread putting up storm windows as well… But let me tell you, hundred-year-old storm windows are real treat. Actually I don't know how old they are but They are about 7 feet tall each with 12 panes of glass and weigh about 40 Pounds apiece.

The thought of putting up windows brings foul weather and today was no exception. The day started sunny for a run and immediately shifted to sleet as soon as we got the first glass hoisted. Ritual starts with cleaning both the storm windows and the house windows. That part I actually enjoy doing

The challenge of finding which window is which. It's not that they're not labeled, it's just that there's about four different labeling systems that of been in use for the past who knows how many years. And they don't all agree.

The storm windows each have their own personality. They're not interchangeable. Like this one always strikes me as an accountant. Its Relatively new and was made only 12 years ago. Its new wood, perfect caulking and Fresh paint make it look a little Conservative

s an old friend… It's the one I look out the most probably it's our kitchen window… It watches us Cook.

This one is like a crotchety old man. it's caulking is gone it's falling apart and it fights back when you put it up.

Despite the hassle, it's a great feeling when all the windows are up. The inside feeling of the house changes a bit because everything is so much quieter. Soon we will also appreciate the warmth.

Aside from that, I was able to clean the lab today and we moved the piano

also a new friend, Jimmy V, came over to show us 25 Samstone placements that he had made During an epic trip to the south. We sat there and posted them together. It was really nice

Tell Diane and I are ready to go see some music at higher ground. (Beats antigue) More on that tomorrow

Saturday night – hack the. stacks

Today was a perfect day to work inside. It was cold and rainy outside,.Diane and I used the time to clean out the old lab, install a light fixture, etc. around the house. Like yesterday, it was very satisfying to get this work done ….and it's essential as winter closes in.

Mid afternoon I had to go out to rent a piano dolly to move the piano the front entrance so we can start stacking wood. I use the chance stop by the hack the stacks event from code for BTV. It's a two day hackathon which is being hosted by the Fletcher free library. There were between 15 and 20 people there working on a variety of projects. I spent some time with the Lakecraft team. Nick and Nina were there, Ive been working with for the past three or four months. Nick is made great progress in adding roads and rivers to The Lake Champlain version of Minecraft. It was pretty exciting, I think they're going to be on the news here tonight.

Later tonight we went over to Lou and Kathy's for a going away dinner for their daughter Hannah. She's going to live in Barcelona to teach English. All of the food was Spanish themed. It Was really tasty. Lots of different types of paella

And some crazy belt buckles!

At home now in a quiet house …struggling to stay awake. Time for bed. More tomorrow.

Friday night – cleaned up

Very satisfying day. I took the day off to catch up on some much needed work around the house. It takes alot to get this old place ready for winter. It was snowing this morning as if to remind us that winter was coming .mDiane and i spent 5 hours cleaning out the garage getting ready to put the cars in. I forgot to take before and after pics.. But imagine 3 full garbage cans of scrap wood, scrap steel and junk thrown out. And . I found enough welding steel to build a small car..

Then came the job of carting some of the stuff up to the attic.. 3 floors up.. Up went the inner tubes, up went the canoeing stuff.. And for the forst time… Up went the bikes… It felt strange carrying sams bike up to the attick… Its never been up there… It probably will always be now.

Arond 4 my friends john and jarred came over . It was time to do final testing on a long overdue project that john , homer and i had built for jarred and friends. It felt very good showing the big thing working….and seing it go out the door… Im eager to see it get used.. and Im not going to miss having it here..

On the other hand , John is leaving for boston and a new job… Im really going to miss him…

Ok.. Time for sleep.. More tomorrow..
