Saturday night – reconnecting

We had a much needed quiet day around the house today. We got some gardening in and some prep for our upcoming vacation. That’s up good to do.

We are about to go out for a hike and are all friends Paul, Ellen, Claire, and Isaac showed up… We haven’t seen them for a few days. Paul was literally the first new friend I made when I moved to Vermont and 1981. We went out furniture shopping… I was trying to buy a bed and I bought instead a scale or you put a penny in and it tells you your fortune. It was really good catching up with all of them

Later this evening we headed into South Burlington for an IBM reunion of sorts. My friend pat can put it together. It was a nice crowd there. It was so great catching up with folks

OK… Time for bed

Friday night – longest day

Today is the solstice.. the longest day of the year. I packed it with a crazy array of meetings . My 2nd meeting of the day turned out to be particularly interesting. My friend Mohamed who I hadn’t seen in more than 15 years called me out of the blue. His son has been admitted to UVM and they were up at admitted student Day. He called me because i was the first number with an 802 area code . We met at a nice cafe and started catching up.. it occurred to me that he didn’t know about Sam. As I told him, I could tell he hadn’t heard .. but I saw there was more . He told me that his eldest daughter died 7 years ago. It was a weird shock as that sink in for both of us .

We spent the next hour and a half sharing stories about grief , healing , our families work

It was so great to reconnect .. even over shared tragedy

I think it’s made us both more open

Ok.. it’s dark out

.. it’s the start of the shortest night

Wednesday night- back in Cambridge

Back in Cambridge after several weeks away. Really nice catching up with people. Lots of catching up with work as well

Day ended with a really good sushi dinner at one of my favorite places. We found a cool path there through the back streets of Cambridge. Many I’d never seen
