Monday night – dirt

Diane was supposed to be coming back tonight after her trip to Portland but her flight got canceled just as she was walking out of Gabes to go there… So one more night. I miss her so much. I have been working like crazy around the house to make sure it’s nice for Diane Kane’s back… Bacalla and I have been weeding the garden is watering things… Today I got a yard of dirt delivered so after work I was able to use it to do the last earthworks part of the drainage project that we took on. I can’t wait to show it to ‘Diane…

Itself good to get my hands in the dirt…

Sunday night – dad‘s birthday

Today would’ve been my dad’s 91st birthday… It’s funny because I always Get mixed up on whether his birthday is the 15th or the 19th… My mom set me straight.

I miss that guy so much… I talk to him almost every day I bet it was such a fun and balancing aspect of my life and for the rest of the family…

I wonder what he would make of the world today…. He definitely have strong opinions and some sort of folksy wisdom..

Saturday night – Some blackbirds wing

I woke up this morning to the news that Nancy Griffith country folk singer that I like had died at age 68.… She was a great singer t I grew up listening to… Kinda More easy listening than my tastes but she did write one of my favorite songs it’s called “Gulf Coast Highway”… It’s about the time that the bluebonnets come out In East Texas Where I grew up… i used to say it’s the only time that east Texas was pretty… I kept listening to that song all day. Here’s how it goes

Gulf Coast Highway by Nanci Griffith

Gulf coast highway, he worked the rails
He worked the rice fields with their cold, dark wells
He worked the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico
The only thing we’ve ever owned is this old house here by the road
And when he dies he says he’ll catch some blackbird’s wing
And we’ll fly away to heaven
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring
She walked through springtime when I was home
The days were sweet, our nights were warm
The seasons changed, the jobs would come
The flowers fade, and this old house felt so alone
When the work took me away
And when she dies she says she’ll catch some blackbird’s wing
And she will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring
Highway 90, the jobs are gone
We tend our garden, we set the sun
This is the only place on Earth blue bonnets grow
And once a year they come and go
At this old house here by the road
And when we die we say we’ll catch some blackbird’s wing
And we will fly away to heaven
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring
Yes when we die we say we’ll catch some blackbird’s wing
And we will fly away together
Come some sweet blue bonnet spring

Hope you caught that black birds wing Nanci RIP

Friday night – Keller Williams

Really nice day… Hottest places… Had a good work day then took off to Fred and Mike’s to work on the eel… It was wonderful hanging out in his basement which was cool and dry .

I was super surprised to find out that he had the same ham radio transceiver that I had almost 50 years ago… (Queue the spooky music)

Just driving home from there about 6 o’clock when I noticed the house was really beautiful gardens… I realized after I gone by then it was my friend Jen and cans magical garden. ‘Ken is an incredible landscape architect and Jan is a visual artist… He really got to see this place. These pictures don’t do it justice but it’s an amazing amount of cool artistic experience… Crammed into a reasonably tiny space. Ken’s Covid project was to add a whole bunch of cool new sculpture an architectural Elements such as a gazebo sculpture, a wrought iron Bridge to nowhere… And an amazing frog pond with a floating stone in the middle

I got home in time to help my friend pack reconnect the heat pump we had to move… Well… By helping him that meant I watched LOL.… He’s such a great guy and does such fantastic service. While we were doing that our friend Hunter who we haven’t seen Since last fall showed up… It was so, so good to see him

Grab a quick sandwich and then headed back into town for a Keller Williams show… He’s one of my favorites. I knew it run into people there… And I was really happy to run into our good friend Eliot… And her friend Rick… He also had friends there Brett and Larry and Seth… Super great show and super great people

It’s another hot sticky note… I think I’m gonna go jump in the pool before I go to sleep… How’s that sound?
