Tuesday night -drenched

Just finishing prep for a biz trip. Leaving early I tomorrow, then going to the gathering of the vibes music festival with the team I mentored from the UVM senior design course. We recruited them to the project with the idea that they would take their device to a music festival.. And by golly were going to do it.

I had a really busy day at work.. And still tons to do… But I need to get some sleep.. I took a few hours tonight to go to an organizing meeting of the Vermont Makers.. Great folks doing something really good for the geeks and geeketts of our region.

Just as the meeting was over, I asked our hostess, Rebecca's to try out my new light up hoop. I asked her to turn out the lights and the second I said that, there was a huge flash of lightening and a crack of thunder and the whole street went black.. Very dramatic.. I like to think, that Sam is behind the many electrical distu

Ranches that follow me around like that…

the and spent an hour rebuilding a power supply for the led peace sign for the front of Gary's bus..it still hot and muggy and rainy.. I just came in drenched with remain and sweat..

Now to sleep.. I hope.. Perchance to dream..

Sunday night – loons

Yesterday we made a plan with Jen and Tim to go kayaking/canoeing this morning. They showed up at the house around 7.. and after some juggling of boats and gear we headed off in their very cool jeep. Green river reservoir is about an hour north of here near Morristown. . We love it because there are no power boats and no houses (save 1) on the whole lake. We put in just before 9 and paddled out into the still water. Already the sun was broiling hot. For the next couple of hours we explored the lake.. we stayed close to shore when we could to catch some shade.. but that all disappeared as the sun rose higher.

Our first stop was a small unnamed island where diane and I and later the boys and I camped .. illegally, i think. I remember having the three boys there.. it was one of the best camping trips I remember.. I wanted to drop a smastone out there.. I had a few quiet moments there conjuring up the memories of our last trip there.

We got back in the boats and paddled north..

We didn’t get far until we saw our first loon !. They nest here.. and they are a protected species now so  you have to be careful not to disturb them and their babies.. This mama didn’t seem to care that we were there.. she kept cooing and feeding her little baby minnows.. yum..

birdwatching made us hungry so we put ashore again in the northern most camp, where Jen, Jen and Martha camped last week..

Jen foudn a potatoe chip in the shape of a bear.. how cool is that ?!?!

Then back in the boats for some more loon watching.. .. we found this very cool stump..

It was over 90 degrees.. so Tim and i stopped for a short swim. it felt GREAT !

It was great beign out on the lake.. and great hanging wiht jen and tim..

we got home by about noon.. but it was too hot to move by then.. we spent soem time drifting around the poo/ Then I made the mistake of turning on my laptop.. I got caught up in work and managed to work until abotu 10 PM tonight.. grrrr

ok.. nex week is a new week.. hope I get caught up..

more tomorrow.. nite all, nite sam

Saturday evening – Klimt

It's about 8pm on a sultry Saturday evening its been near 90 all day and the reptile In me has me moving very slowly. I know when I say 90 that readers in the south and southeast will sneer and say that's not so hot … Just realize that almost nothing p here is air conditioned,,,

Even with the heat, though it was a really pleasant day. We'd originally planned to be at a lacrosse tournament in rhode island this weekend gabe decided he couldn't participate, so that left us with a surprise weekend off with absolutely no plans. As always, when I have nothing I have to do, I revert to my natural state which is immobile. Actually.. We did go ano a cool hike today.. And I added a bunch of good new patterns to my programmable hula hoop (rotating rainbow, rasta flag, epileptic strobe ) but for the most part.. All I did was sit under a fan… And browse the Internet..

That's how I came to know that today marks the 150th birthday of Gustav Klimt..

. Probably the most recognizable artist of the fin de siècle Vienna. I have a deep attachment to Klimt because of the time I spent living in Vienna.. His almost kitsch gold leaf paintings and posters always put me in the mood for oil black coffee and sacher torte. It's funny how something like that can take you back so quickly and powerfully to a time and place (madeleines anyone 🙂 ?) I remember hours walking through the gallery just down the street looking at Klimt prints

I don't look at art much anymore.. I think it was because I made a c in art history once.. Dunno.. But it's nice on the occasion of Klimts birthday to say.. Or at least think.. Hertzlich Gluchwunsch zum Geburtstag, Gustav !
